Guess what?! I got a fever, and the only prescription... is more cowbell!  That, or some rock fishing...I've had weekend classes all summer and haven't had a chance to get my yak wet since our karate camp at Bear River in July.  I'm not teaching this weekend though & I need to hit the salt something fierce.  Saturday or Sunday, Monterery, Carmel or even Garrapata if conditions permit and I can find someone to help with the yak-rappelling.  Anyone else looking southward?

I might be looking at MBK, SC, Capitol, or the Bean if the winds at the Forebay aren't quiet. Family was going to Saddle Bag Lake, but with Tioga Road closed that's out--to far around right now so we'll go later in the Fall. SC and Capitola might be intense on the Labor Day weekend so I'd favor MBK or the Bean if the swell and wind are willing.

Items needed:
4mm wetsuit 2xl?
vhf                                  new paddle (using my paddles from 1996)

new yak...(in my dreams)

I have decided on heading up to lower sardine and gold lake area near Sierra City. It looks like a great place to explore to get a little trout fishing in. Has anyone ever been up to this area and done any good, any intel would be great. This is the first time up in this area but it looks like an awsome place to have fun at. I'll make sure to post some nice photos even if the fishing doesn't pan out.

Used to camp at Sardine Lake every year w/my family. Haven't been back for about 10 years though. Good fishing for planters in lower sardine. The drive to upper Sardine is fun, and the fish are slightly less planter-ish. Above there is Packer Lake (if I remember correctly)--good hike-in but not so much for kayaking.
Definitely troll deep in Gold Lake if you get the chance...there's some monster fish in there.

Thanks for the intel. I'll defintely give Gold lake a nice deep troll. Do you remember which one had the best area to hang out with the family at? Look forward to traveling up to a few of those hard to reach places probably won't kayak them but will check them out.
thanks

Lower Sardine has all the amenities. Plus the campground facilities are top-notch and shaded. And there's a nice swimming hole in the creek...very popular, within walking distance of the campground.
Don't forget a tarp...never know when a Sierra storm will break, especially in Sept.
