Hi Folks,

Based on an initial recommendation I received from Yakhopper and some positive reviews, I'm pretty settled on picking-up the Diawa Saltist 30, but am unsure on why I'd want one model over another. From the Diawa website (http://www.daiwa.com/Reel/saltwater.aspx) here are the choices (only highlighting the deltas):

STANDARD SPEED...

Model #: 30T
Gear Ratio: 4.9 : 1
Weight (oz): 22.9
Line Capacity (test / yds): MONO 20/300, 25/240, 30/200 - BRAID 40/600, 50/360
Drag Max: 22.0

ULTRA HIGH SPEED...

Model #: 30H
Gear Ratio: 6.1 : 1
Weight (oz): 17.3
Line Capacity (test / yds): MONO 20/295, 25/230 - BRAID 40/380, 50/280
Drag Max: 15.4

Model #: 30TH
Gear Ratio: 6.4 : 1
Weight (oz): 23.2
Line Capacity (test / yds): same as model 30T above
Drag Max:

Thanks,
Jeff (a.k.a. Steelerhead)
You should have seen the one that got away!

If you ever want to head down to SoCal or further south, and you want to use the reel for tuna/yellowtail vertical jigging, then you'll want the high speed version.

I have the 30H.

It's a great reel for rockfish, sturgeon, and Baja inshore species. If you're using braid and using it mainly from the kayak you could probably go with the next model down.

I really like mine.

Is it the Saltiga or Saltist that has mfg defects in the spool? I think it's the more expensive one that had issues. Check some of Alan Tani's posts RE spool issues.
Oops, it was the Saltiga: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,7845.0.html
I've heard other people complain of similar issues with that reel, too. But it sure looks sweet!
