Actually, I'll letteh CalDFG tell you: "The Pacific halibut can be distinguished from the California halibut by looking at the end of the jaw. In the Pacific halibut, it extends to the front edge of the eye, while in the California halibut it extends beyond the eye."

thanks Surfing Marmot i always thought it had to do with the way the jaws faced... and I know that the pacific gets a lot bigger than the California.  eyther way a leagal size but is always a good thing
