"Here’s Ken with his catch for today - 8 and a 12 pound halibuts! He was fishing from his super tricked out kayak off O’Neil’s using live sardines on a halibut rig. He jigged the sardines up just outside the marina, and used most of them fishing outside by the mile reef (nothing there but a couple of sea lions). Then he paddled up to Soquel point and got these two. He had something big on that straightened out his treble hook - no sea lion popped up after, so … (boo?)."

Amazing markings on that smaller fish. Is that the top or bottom showing in the photo? Ive never seen markings like that on a hali.

Yeah, the guy has back surgery in the offseason, then waits for the perfect time to pounce...like a wily halibut! First time back in the yak and he gets 2 nice halibut?!
OK I'm just jealous.

Sorry for the late post. I'm glad someone beat me to the punch. I have been off for seven months. Blew out L4-L5 above the last fusion. Lifes a bitch sometimes. My surgeon gave me six weeks to get back in the water, my wife made it eight weeks. So eight weeks to the day it was. Nice day to get your feet wet. The guys at the Capitola bait shop helped me get the yak in and out of the water, special thanks. The small one, first one did have some cool olive drab  markings on the underside 26" The larger one  30" was all butt. I did have one come off by blowing out the end treble hook after two massive hits. I missed another on a live mack which never made it to the hooks, but cool teeth marks.

Been kind of quiet out there without you. Fish beware, Ken is back.

Adrenaline is kinda like a pain killer.... untill ya wake up the next morning... WTG back in the saddle again...nice fish...
