Anybody have advice on a Good program to help clean up a Lap top and make it run faster...

I'd beware of any program used to clean a system, they can have undesired effects.  If you use one, make sure it has a way to roll back its changes.

There are general things you can do like defragment your hard drive, remove temporary files, uninstall unnecessary applications and that sort of thing.  You'd be amazed at how much useless crap gets loaded on most computers that just takes up memory and cpu time.  Depending on how much RAM your computer has, adding more can help a lot.

When it gets really bad, I re-install the entire operating system, but hey I'm a techie ;)

You can also roll back changes by using the Windows Restore function.

Main thing...is to keep yourself up-to-date with Microsoft Updates.
(If you only have dialup, typically "automatic updates" will not be able
to keep you up-to-date because of large filesizes.   In that case you
really must occasionally GO to www.microsoft.com and update by hand)

Next....."Adaware" by Lavasoft Corp (already mentioned) is good.

Bottom Line:   I feel strongly that freeware is NOT the way to go.

We're only talking $30-$40 here.   Freeware versions do not update "definitions" and "definitions" (against new bots) are at the heart-of-the-thing.

If you do use freeware ...???... you absolutely must know the "bonafides" of the
vendor.   Otherwise "The Product" itself ...!!!... can be "the poison."  (And a sad thing that would be)
