I have a question about adding a rudder to my WS Tarpon 140a. Actually I have 3 and when I bought them I did not get the rudder upgrade. Well after 3 Years of use I'm finally tired of fighting the wind and I need to get the rudder upgrade for all three yaks. A local dealer (same one I bought the kayaks from) has given me a price but I"m not sure if it's a good price. He is a little pricey on accessories. What should I expect this to cost me?

I would post the price he quoted me but I'm not sure if it is against the rules of ncka. But the price he quoted is for new WS parts and install. Any replies on this would be appreciated...Thanks

I recently bought a used 2006 WS Tarpon 140 and it came without the rudder too. So I am very interested in hearing what people have to say about this issue.

I plan to purchase and install the rudder system myself. It would be cool if I could find a used rudder to buy (unless there are inherant problems with used rudders?). But there aren't a lot of rudder installation tutorials on the net so maybe it is something I should have a professional install.

Sin coast, thats why I'm probably going to have it installed. Although if I tried it on my sons kayak first and then did my wifes I'd probably be able to do a pretty good job by the time I got to my kayak. Although it wouldn't be as much fun kayaking with my family if they could only go in circles...Or maybe it would be... :smt044

I'd go with the Feathercraft kit as sold by Kayakfishingstuff. The WS pedal assembly is wimpy, just like their footpegs.  Regular folks have installed the FC system without any problems.

What I'd really like to see though, is the Smart Track rudder fit to the Tarpon  :)

Scott
