Not to HJ this thread, but it is about surfing and salt. The annual butt surfer contest at Steamer Lane is this weekend. It's a very fun scene. The parking meters at Cowell's don't kick in until 10am. It's usually a easy put in right there. You can surf small waves for a bit there if you want. Or paddle out to the competition zones and hang out in the kelp with the otters, and BS with the competitors before and after their heats. It usually starts on friday and saturday at 7 and sunday at 8.
I used to free surf from 6 to 8 on sundays but now daylight savings time buggers that up for me. But I think I'll be on the break at 6:45 any way. Last year was very big and lots of times it's too small, it looks like this year might be about right.
This break is very territorial, and this is the weekend that it's not, so it a great chance to paddle with lots of other paddlers at one of the best breaks in the world. It's also fun to hang out up on the cliff with everybody. There's always lots of booths and a silent auction and food and that kind of stuff.

Hello again HS. I don't get up north much, live in Oakland so we do San Mateo, SF and Marin counties.
Turns out the waves were too small today and probably tomorrow. Then  the storm comes in tomorrow night. All the final heats will be in completely different conditions than the days before. The good thing about when it's big there, we don't have to worry about getting waves outside of the competition zones. They'll be breaking from the lighthouse to the motel.
