Just do it!  Great entry into the game,  one thing tho, get caught up on the DFG regs, just fishing for some things in some places can get you a ticket, C&R or not...

Great to hear about your solo trip gone good,,,,

Congrats, and awesome first catch!  My first kayak fish was a 4" bluegill... :smt005  But you rocked it...great fish, nice report, even including a photo!  Abking approves, as do we.  :smt002  Keep up the good work and welcome to the madness!

I've been reading your posts for a few months now and love it. Bought a Malibu X-13 awhile back and today was the first day I took it fishing. Nobody ever accused me of being quick to move on something (the 1yr old and pregnant wife may have something to do with that)

I'm a novice fisherman, most experience from Mexico where they do everything for you. Decided to try Foster City mainly because it's close to home and I can always swim to shore if things get interesting. Didn't have any real hope of catching anything but just wanted to get things situated on the yak. I got on the water at about 11:30 trolling a Rapala. Stopped to cast a bit and realized casting reels and I don't get a long well, so after untangling a few rats nests I went back to trolling. After about 45 min I looked back and the line was not trailing behind the yak but off to the side...huh that's weird, then I noticed the rod tip going nuts. Pulled in my first Striper. Guys were coming out of there houses to watch. I think we were all a little shocked. Got it to the boat.

Thank you to everyone who suggested leashes for everything. I had stuff flying off the Yak in every direction while trying to get the hook out. I taped a ruler on my paddle but didn't think to put it in the water. I think it was about 21in. I released it figuring anything living in that water has to be toxic and I don't know what's legal to keep.

I'm fired up, been wanting to do this for about 3 years. Thanks for all the info you guys provide. It allows me to at least look like I know what I'm doing.

Congratulations!  If this was the normal first trip report, Kayak sales would double.  Way to go!

Baja........Big Sur......Shelter Cove.........Foster City...

Foster City???!!!

Wow, WTG dude!
AbKing called it days ago in a post about the risk of getting skunked and coming up snake-eyes when we go exploring new, unproven, "unlikely" areas that we all pass by and sniff at.
Keep at it and lets see if you can establish some good knowledge here.

Thanks for all the votes of confidence. A few have asked about location. I put in at Parkside Aquatic park in the Marina Lagoon. Headed to 3rd and caught the fish on the way back. Mooch told me the Aquan boathouse was right around there, so I figured a good place to start.

Isn't that where the Aquan Boathouse is ? I might have to get there early
