I haven't been sturgeon fishing in about a decade let alone in a kayak. Looking to take my maiden voyage. Obviously everyone is flocking to OAP. Can someone give directions to the launch area and the general area to head out from the launch? Any tips to pass alone are also appreciated. Got the rod, bait cooler, snare, leaders, GPS, anchor system. anything else to suggest?
Thankx Jonesz

Here is my question for the group.  I remember fishing for dinos when I was much younger and vaguely remember using Mud Shrimp in addition to Ghosties and Grass Shrimp but haven't heard them mentioned here.  Am I coming from way out of left field or is it the least desirable of the shrimp?

Can't wait till I have all my ducks in a row and can get out to hunt some sturgeon myself.  Until then, I sit hear drooling with envy for all those that have been absolutely slaying!  And leave some for the rest of us! :smt008

Whats up with that "Green" dino being poisonous?  The picture in that thread, showed the spines, (Looked like the spines from a rose plant, nasty) I'm not planning to go for din's anytime soon, so I haven't (or don't) read up them.

Directions to the launch can be found in this link:

In all the times I've been out there, I see boaters and kayakers hover over the area within a mile south/southwest of the white buoys. If you head out around high tide, you'll see more of the crafts: follow the crowd.

mudshrimp are still used, trick is they're a bit harder to get.

Its all about match the hatch to some extent....mud shrimp live in, well...umm...mud. Like san pablo bay mud.  Ghost shrimp are sand critters...like OAP area. everything eats grass shrimp, and they sure do cover a hook nicely.

That's not t' say that you can't catch sturgeon over mud with ghosties or grass....

Mooch got it right about sturgeon fishing -especially up in SP bay (where there are less trash fish in winter due to more freshwater) -- it is a lot like sitting outside, in a puddle, watching paint dry.

Thanks for the info boyz. I'm very familiar with the required attention and patience required. That's why it's MUCH better with some enjoyable company to banter back and fourth with... :smt003 Trouble with reading a book, is it's hard to see that illusive bite when your eyes are on the page. Now the best day I ever remember dino hunting was YEARS ago, but I still remember it like it was last week. We were at Richmond/SR bridge and there was this HOT chick in the boat next to us  :smt007 who was bored out of her mind until I hooked a 6'er that errupted right in front of her like a marlin. She let out a scream that had us all laughing. Some how I didn't mind the hours of watching that day... :smt005
