The questions only applies to freshwater fishing for the smaller species (not salmon or sturgeon)

1:  who carries a net for ALL of their yak fishing (as per DFG)?

I personally leave it at home if I am just chasing a few trout or bass because I dont like the extra clutter, especially when fishing from my SIK.

2:  anyone else do this?
3:  anyone get hassled by DFG for not having a net with them?

Thanks

Well, I recently got a net (Min 18") so that I won't get hassled when I do go out, but if I'm out for trout or bass I'll leave it home as I to don't like the clutter, and hanging a crank bait up in it!  Nothing more worse than trying to free up not 1 but 2 large treble hook from a net!

I take a collapsible with me on all trips.  Folds up to the size of a medium umbrella

Nice to have  & better than a ticket.  I think I spent less than $20 on it.

Some of us carry mesh duffle bags with 18" openings in order to comply with the DFG net rule.  Doesn't take up much room, and comes in handy for toting gear around.

I'm a sinner , never knew it was law to carry a net except for ocean salmon fishing . Guess I need to get a copy of the DFG regs and read up . I use a net when fishing most freshwater and all salt species , just did not know it was the LAW !

I does only apply to ocean waters unless there has been a recent change that I'm not aware of.

If it applies everywhere then I'm sure someone here will dig up the reg, and post it, (someone usually does).  Which I really appreciate.

One of my winter purchases will be a large Promar collapsible, lost a nice hali this year due to an 18" net, and so far I'm not a gaffer.

Yes, the 18" min net requirement is only applicable to saltwater kayak fishing.

I have used a net for fresh water for years, but I fly fish and keep it attached some where when I can grab it (back of my vest if on shore), somewhere in the milk crate otherwise.
