Chuck and I plan to head to Pine Flat Reservoir on Saturday (27th) around 7am and launch at the boat ramp in Trimmer. We'll likely paddle up river hoping to hook into some big browns.

I put in at Choinumni a couple weeks ago and fished the new rocks KRCD/KRWA/DFG put in (east of Choinumni up to Army Corps bridge).  Didn't catch much.  There were LOTS of people fishing the banks...

Sorry I can't join you, family in town that day.

I have done a lot of fishing in the upper Kings above Pine Flat and it's an interesting fishery. Native bows and browns. And lots of very hard-fighting smallmouth bass.
I wouldn't run it in my SOT but we raft down it in the spring and it's kind of dangerous. I know you guys aren't talking about going up there, but if you do--be careful where you wade!

SPECIAL TO THE BEE
Albert Palomo caught German browns in the upper Kings River above Pine Flat Reservoir. The biggest one was 19 inches and all were caught with Kastmasters.

Merritt Gilbert reported trout anglers are working all day for quality limits to 15 inches while long-lining Rapalas on or just below the surface. Catfish to 3 pounds have been taken from the banks in Deer Creek Cove with anchovies. Bass fishing continues to be tough, with small fish found on shad colored plastics at depths to 40 feet. A small limit of just over 6 pounds won a weekend tournament. The lake has risen to 16% capacity. Weekly trout plants are scheduled on the lower Kings, but there have been no reports with the low water.

I used to WWkayak the upper Kings and I believe with some solid skills you could do this in a SOT.  BUT you would probably want to start just after the last big HYDROlic that is a series of haystacks we called "rooster tail". This was just above the third bridge. Could be fun in a Mini-x, Trident11, or T100 but I agree reguarding the wade. This place stinks of foot entrapment.
