I would love to hook into a 51" salmon on the Sac.  It's killing such a magnificent creature, given our pitiful runs of salmon, that I can't understand. I agree: let them spawn.  Even in good years, of which this year is not one. 

I really think the AOTY contest should NOT include salmon next year if the ocean is closed and the rivers are - for some crazy reason - open.  Or alternatively, how about this: you are allowed to add 5 inches or whatever to your score, if you release the fish.  Simple.  Apply it to the salmon (and steelhead?) only.  Sportsmen, treating the resource responsibly, are our only hope to have wild fish in the future. 

Really happy to see this incredible specimen spawned OK.
