I made a cheap effective way to mount my camera using some pool noodle and a mini tripod.  Fits in my cup holder on the Hobie, and even floats the Camera!Camera Mount (16).JPGCamera Mount (12).JPG

With this mount, made this video:

Very simple but very effective, Al. Too bad my kayak doesn't have a cup holder.

My OK kayaks have cup holders.. but believe me, you wouldn't want the photos that would result from that rig.

I read that you have already crafted a mount but I thought I could still contribute to this thread.
A few years back I started a project called "the vanity mount".
The first evolution was able to firmly hold the camera ,after the timer was set, and I didnt have to get out of my seat and risk losing the fish prior to the photo op. It was simple, low profile, and it was nice to set the rod in when I was paddle in hand. The problem was that the shot was from a very submissive point of view and even made me a bit uncomfortable.
V2 and now V3 have evolved beyond the crotch shot but you still have to find your sweet spot to catch the entire length of the fish.
It takes some practice but its very simple to use and you can pop it in and out easily between fish.
here are a few shots of the mounts and a few victims. The one of the kitty I nabbed this afternoon. :spiderman:

Oh yeah, I was fine for the launch, crusing through the kelp, but then the big swells!  I had to turn my laptop around and head for shore before I got to useless to do so! Hahahhaaa....

Great video, Al, Gave me a sense of what it's really like out there on the ocean.  Altough I know I wouldn't last 30 min in that water state without serious meds!  Doggonit now I have another project for my OB.  Camera mount!  My PFD pocket just doesn't cut it anymore.

Um, yeah. People, let's learn from spidey's trials and tribulations and avoid the crotch shot. Thank you. :smt003 I don't know if we can master the look away like spidey does... but we can try.

Loc-line is  a flexible hose system. I believe the camera mount itself was a DIY project using this hose material.

For example, here is a DIY gorrila pod made out of the same material..
