Awesome fish! don't forget to cut off the cheeks and collar. Those are the best parts.

FYI, hitting a hali (especially big ones) only makes them mad. To kill it go for it's gills with a knife.

Also, when you bring it onto the boat flip it upside down. It seems to keep them from flipping out so much.

Killer fish. You are hooked big time my friend.

Wow... what a great intro into ocean kayak fishing!
It rarely gets much better than that, and you couldn't have picked a better mentor than Scott "GB2".

Wow, that's a monster! Congrats!

I know what you mean about the sand dabs as well. Getting bit on every drop does make you feel like a little kid again.

Great work both of you guys. Scott, I hope you are saving some of your mojo for when we finally get to fish together! I'd like to catch a halibut this year too!

Hey John -

Good mojo comes from helping other people, so you will have to teach ME how to fish and then you will catch the giant hali.  :smt003 I will say it is time to upgrade your avatar, but you will need to buy a camera or wait for x mas.  :smt044 All that said, if the WX holds, the Big Sur commandos ride this Saturday for glory.  :smt003 Will PM you with the plans. Bringing man dogs for my salt water farewell.  :smt006

Forgot my last post and pic.

Lawrence - thanks for sending some of the hali via your bro to me. I gave him your FF.

The last pic is Flyaker (Lawrence) at the end of his first day fishing big blue NCKA style. Funny thing is that he rolls the same yak,  rig and wheels as me. Kind of creepy.  :smt044

The force is strong with this one, you AOTY guys, WATCH OUT!!!

Scott-  when you rolled into the lot at 630AM I thought i must have been in a dazed dream and looking in the mirror or something  -  there was exactly the same car as mine, same color, same boat on top.
Thanks for the great pics too.

I am definintely hooked!    Cant wait to head back out there again.   This is in my blood now.

Thanks for the good advice on halibut.   I am having the cheeks and collar tomorrow night.   My son loves that.
I'll also make a note about the gills and flipping them over for the next hali a tangle with.

Thanks, again, everyone for the kind words and congrats, and of course always to Scott for the unforgettable day.

I am going to post the pictures once i figure out how to do this.
