Nice work, that's about identical to one I landed there in the picture of me on this post. Where were you when you hooked it up?
Mike

We were on the north side of the yellow can. OK, I forgot the really sweet part of the story... When Lawrence and I first pulled up to the yellow can, two PB's were working the area, one on the north and one on the south. I told Lawrence that the PB to the north was in the spot I wanted to fish so we waited for them to drift through then paddeled quickly to drop into the drift up wind from them. When Lawrence hoooked the hallie, the PB had reset their drift upwind from us in time to see Larence land the fish. Needless to say, they looked pissed in their $40,000 boat.  :smt044

GB, to me thats always the sweetest. Last week when i got a limit (of babies in comparison) I was fishing around the Party Boat, the New Huck Finn(they joined my drift, not the other way around). Very few nets flying. The customers were talking such s#!t about the yaks(I know the capt. is a great guy who does an excellent job), saying thing like "you couldnt catch a guppy off one of those", and" you need a real boat to catch real fish". I promtly limited out in 3 drops right in front of em!
Their s#!t talking turned into them tending their rods. :smt044 :smt044 :smt044
Exellent team work guys!!!

What a nice post! Funny how it does not take being the one to catch the "big one" to make the day epic, way to go Scott.

thanks, everyone, for your kind comments.     It was truly a day to remember.    I  was already happy as a clam just to catch the sand dabs, but the icing on the cake turned out to be the main event.   I really must say however, that my role in it was merely the one holding the rod when the brute struck.   GB2 really was the one that did it all -  rig selection, site selection, rig set up, and even battling the fish into submission.

Wife ended up  buying some kind of software last night that can recover deleted files, so I will be posting more pics later.

Lawrence -

You hooked him and brought him to the boat. Many lose hali's at the boat because of their uncanny habit of breaking fishing line with the head shakes and last ditch burst of energy. Your fly fishing skill served you well when it counted most. Sorry I missed the first gaff shot, I should have gone for the head since it was clearly over 22 inches. z

WOW, great job to both teacher and student.  Beautiful fish, that is for sure.  I can only imagine having that beast on the end of my line.

Knew I screwed up when I decided to leave GB2 at the MBK tourney and head back to fix the FF.  Should have stuck it out and fished blind.  Oh well, live and learn.

Dumb Newb question ; where is MKB ?

MBK = Monterey Bay Kayak and near the Monterey wharf.  If you want specifics, you'll have to google it as I've only been once.

Great fish and great reporting too.  Way to go, Scott on the free guiding in the spirit of NCKA, and way to go, Flyaker on landing that big halibut.  Good Times!   :smt001
