I headed up to Tahoe for a mini getaway before starting a new job on Monday.

I launched both days around 6:30am and felt like the only one on the water the entire time.

6/18 - After tolling for about an hour I hooked my first and only fish.  I reel a huge rainbow  to the boat only to have him literally spit the lure at my face.  I was off the water by 9:30 with no other action.

6/19 - Again after trolling for an hour, I get my first and only fish.  This one jumps 3 or 4 times on its way to me, but I made sure to land the 23 incher.

Here are some pics. . . .

WOW!  Is that a rainbow?  Looks big enough to be a salmon.  What lures are you trolling?  In fact, what setup do you use altogether?  Good luck on the new job.

Very nice... I love seeing pics of big rainbows without the disgustingly-freakish bobbed hatchery tails.

I'm pretty sure it was a rainbow.

It's a simple setup. I was trolling a jointed Rapala in maybe 20 to 75 fow with about 300 feet of line.  I don't have a fish finder so that is just a guess on the depth.

Good luck on the new job.

Thanks!

That's the first thing I wondered when I saw that pic!  Man, a 23 inch wild/ holdover 'bow like that is really spectacular.  Thanks for posting that Jason.

That is a beauty and love that lake! So beautiful. I think from the first pic it might be a steelhead. The distinct color line where it goes from dark to light is pretty steelhead-ish.

Right on Jason! That is a beautiful fish. Tahoe has some very large native rainbows, and that is certainly one of them. Thanks for the details too; the BBR strikes again!

Did you see any other kayakers out there? I met a couple guys on Fathers Day who had drove to the coast from Tahoe to fish. One of the guys said he fishes Tahoe quite a bit and was considering starting a guide service. We tried to recruit him to the site. Tim Dooog are you out there?

Thanks for the great report+pics Jason!

No other kayakers fishing.   In fact, there were hardly any boats around.
