Technical Question.

Ok, here it goes. what is the tue and proper procedure to do if you catch A cod on A rig setup for sandabs. For instance A sabbiki rig set up with multipal hooks? Throw it back? I think technically thats what should be done. Right? Advise. Andy

Yes, it has to be released.
Years ago, I was under the impression that you could use 3+ hooks (or 2 rods) UNTIL you had a rockfish in possesion....and that you had to downgrade to 2 hooks (or 1 rod) if you kept said rockfish.

But I was wrong. If you catch a rockfish while using 3+ hooks (or 2 rods), the fish must be released immediately.



Further complicating things: if you have rockfish onboard, it is illegal to use a sabiki (w/3+ hooks). So, I guess you have to sabiki up some dabs+bait BEFORE keeping any rockfish.

Or just use 2 hooks...
