One thought, have you tried a reboot with an alternate power supply? Could be low amps?

i think the display draws more power than the actual depth ranging electronics.. when the power gets low, the picture just fades off into nothing... but hey, its worth a shot

Hey Mike, are you planning on going anywhere on Monday?  I was thinking of giving sonoma or mendo a shot.

Sonoma 1/2 day

A constant reading normally means a bubble has formed under the trans or it has come loose. If you are fishing DEEP the 245 will run out of power and go wonky until you switch to the narrow beam.

I just bought a 580c, the new version of the matrix 67 and it RULES.

I'm using the foam method and I hung it in the water with the same result

If you have a air gap then it can't shoot anyfarther and you will get the samereading over and over, or they will work intermittently as hull ooze fills and leaves the void.

Mike-try changing the frequency back and forth.  The software for those units is not the most sophisticated.

Success fixed it I did the reset and nothing changed, but in part of the reset procedure up comes a screen with the system info and by pushing the clear button you come to other system info and calibration screen. I ran a depth calibration and it failed then you come to a loop test screens so I ran that then went back to the calibration screen and wala it reads 1.2' the depth of the bucket I had the transducer in. I guess some how the transducer lost communication with the head unit, but its good to go now.
Thanks for all your suggestions when Sean said the software wasn't too robust it got me thinking of built in tests and calibrations just took a little searching,a stool and a bucket. sweet :smt002

I guess I will have to give it a real test tomorrow.

Awesome Mike.  I have similar issues with those otherwise great little units.
