I knew it wasn't the best day this week to go, but it was my chance.  Me and about 3 other yakkers out there couldn't catch more than one little blue.  It was bumby right into the large rock island, and a pretty stiff NNW breeze was blowing as I came into the beach.
I paddled through some big but short swells out around Pesc. Pt and up into the kelp where it was a little sheltered, still bumpy and hard to stay in place.  Used whole squid on bare hooks and some swimbaits, nothing but that one stupid blue.  That lasted about an hour, and the wind started up a little and as I came back in, I was glad I hadn't waited, it was as exiting a ride as I've had, worried about broaching on the short swells, slight bit of whitecaps.   Fished the Carmel side kelp a little, less bump there, but nothing doing.  Launched at 7:30 out at 11:30.
   From the Mntry 46042 buoy:

wind at 0950-11.7-13,6; wwht-8.9/9sec, 6.9 mwd ;swell-7.9 at 9.1sec going from steep to average. air temp - 50, water -50.
I think Pat and Randy have a rule that if the wave and swell add up to 10, they don't go.  I think I was way beyond that.

Now I'm going to remember those numbers and know when not to go out!
(Still a nice day, even if I had to pay my dues.)

Bummer about the crappy conditions. Those close swells are scary when your bow takes a dive. At least you got a fish. Lots of skunks lately.
Thanks for the report FT!

Thats too bad. I drove around Carmel beach this morning and I could see the swell was up around the rock. I looked for you but couldn't see anyone.  Then this afternoon the whitecaps were way into Carmel bay.
At least you got out and a blue.
 Thanks for the report.

Careful out there!  Being out there in marginal conditions makes you think of how much different it is when you're out on a flat and windless day.  Sometimes you just have to go get some time in the water though.   :smt001

Be ready for that next flat and windless day.  Good post.
