We've all done it... I've seen plenty of posts on this site where it seems like maybe better judgment may have been used.  There are days where you are taking a calculated risk, based on the conditions vs. your own experience... what is risky for me, may not be so risky for someone more experienced.  But there are days when no one on this earth should be in the water off of this coast... particularly up north.  If im not mistaken, doesnt the coast gaurd have the authority to close harbors to outbound traffic?  Maybe they should have the authority to set "no dive" days... I have no idea how they would enforce it, but at least it would stand out as a very stern warning to would be dare devils and dumbasses.

watch what you ask for. you watch, inside of a year, all days wil be no dive days cause somebody "could" get hurt.

the east coast is pretty much like this.

I'm not asking for anything man... besides, I dont even dive so I'm not one so suggest anything, just floating an idea...  You are probably right anyway, they would be all power hungry anyway and over use the authority...

I thought the CG did chage for rescues? And IMO the person that gets rescued should have to pay for the expenses involved.
While I don't think they s/b able to hand out tickets for diving on bad days, they should at least inform divers when they determine it is too dangerous. Because a large percentage of people would think twice about entering the water if the CG told them its too dangerous that day. Granted, some would dive regardless. But I would definitely heed their warning if approached.
