I'm tired of waiting for the local tackle shop to open for live minnows so I decided to transform the goldfish bowl into A minnow bowl. The minnows have been in there for about A month. Three died. Worth A try?

Not sure about the legality, but they'll do fine as long as you aerate the water...and feed them, of course. They seem to thrive on goldfish food. They also have a taste for crushed dog or cat kibble, although it might not keep them healthy for any amount of time.

Oh, the other important thing is don't let the water get too warm. That'll kill 'em in a minute.

i can't catch big fish but I'm good with minnows... :smt012

Nice tank Andy. I had a doz jumbos from The Tackle Box live in an aerated icechest for like 2 months before they started dying. So I dumped em in my backyard pond.

Now you need to get some crawdads, waterdogs, and regular minnows so you can open your own bait shop!!!

Well, neither do I but I have wanted to not toss back the $$ spent on bait when I am done for the day.  But why would it be illegal?

Starting to think that there may be underground bait stores...

"Pst!....  Hey you!  you, ummm, need any Bait?"

I have a 100Gal tank doing nothing right now... Maybe I can start stocking up!  Think goldfish will attract bass??  (j/k!)

F&G doesn't want live fish moved from one body of water to another to avoid transmission of parasites, diseases, invasive plant and animal species.

Huh, if that is the case then maybe they have some standards for regulating the people that sell live bait then?  Guess im gonna have to look it up now!

Well, guess its not legal then :(https://nrmsecure.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=3253

"A Live Freshwater Bait License is required for all persons who, for profit, capture, possess, transport, or sell live freshwater fish, freshwater clams, or crayfish for bait. Laws and regulations pertaining to the capture, possession, and sale of live freshwater bait, are found in Inland Fisheries Informational Leaflet No. 7."

Hi Yaker:

I would switch to Artificial (Banjo Minnow?). I beleve it would be a hassle to transport live Fish and a Tank full of water.

                                                                  Good Luck

The key phrase in the proclamation above is "for profit". The bait license is required only if you SELL bait. It is perfectly legal to possess live bait in California if you purchased the fish from a licensed bait dealer.
