Me and Fish Flogger hit Pinto lake today. I fished from 9-4. Target was bass with chance for planter trout. The fishing was pretty tough. We spent most of our time in the flooded timber in back trying for bass. I only got one fish to hand. Caught it on a black senko rigged weedless. Up in tight to a line of tullies.
First time using the hawg trough. It was 14.5 inches. Lost a bigger one right at the boat that probably went over 18. Should've used the net. Got plenty of other bites but just couldn't set the hook right.
I tried for trout on the paddle back and drifted with PB+crawlers but no bites. Bummer my transducer job didn't work--this was the first paddle with the FF mounted and it didn't work. Well, the temp worked but the transducer did not.
Fish Flogger caught a couple of nice bass within about 20 minutes of each other. Well deserved fish. Because we worked pretty hard. Man, I even resorted to a bobber+crawler back in the brush and no bites at all. We did see lots of big carp in hte back of the lake too. Might be fun on the flyrod.

sorry bout the threadjack but my Pinto Lake story needs to be told...

a zillion years ago I could drive my truck to the back of the lake and fish my private Idaho.  Then a county park went in, but I could still drive back, few more folks.  Then they built a pier/bridge and it started geting a bit more crowded.  By now you had to park in a lot and walk in.  Then some lady praying saw the vision of the Virgin Mary in a tree right by the pier and all hell (ironic huh) broke loose.  A makeshift altar went in, then the park had to put a chain link fence up around the tree, too many people peeling of pieces of the tree for luck.  Before long the place looked like a dump.  I have not gone back, it was too sad to bear.  Hope things have quited down there!

What didn't work with your transducer install?  No signal return?

Pat -

WTG however that is a freaky looking fish, IMO. What's in that Pinto water?

Humpbacked crawdads lead to humpbacked bass! :smt003 :smt005
I've been trying to get out that way 'cause this is the time of year for Pinto Big-uns...
Nice try anyway! :smt044
There is a couple of moss-backed toads that reside in that lake that I really want to visit. :smt002
It sounds like you were doing the right things...
What was the water temp? If you don't mind.

That was great getting out there and fishing with you PK. It's been a while.

I had a great time. The fishing was brutally slow but I did manage to scratch those 2 bass in the last hour of being there. Got one on a 5" pumpkin colored senko and the other on a smoke colored fat ika. Both fish fought pretty well. Nice and chunky fish...they had been eating well. Anyways this was my first bass out of my kayak. I was pretty excited. The first one almost pulled me into the tullies. I'll be going this Thursday if anybody would like to join me.

Thanks Adam. I must say that it was very rewarding after such a long day of slow fishing. Not to mention getting skunked the last time I was out trying for bass...
