Pinto or SC harbor?

I'm gonna do some fishing this Saturday, I'm just not sure where yet. If I get some interest from other peeps then I'll be paddling out of the SC harbor and trying for some early season butts. If I can't get a buddy to paddle out with I'll most likely end up at Pinto lake for some bass fishing.

Bueller.....?

I'm having problems checking the swells and weather on fishsantacruz.com.

I would love to go out of Sc harbor this weekend. Need an early morning launch to avoid the afternoon winds , asy 7 a.m. on the water?

I am off half day today, and need to do some shopping for goodies for the yak and will try to get a better feel for the weather.

I've got the bait, and some riggings that scallen showed me for buts,  ready to go.

PM me or leave a message here if you're going out.

See ya on the water ch 69 as always.

Stoggie

Mendo:

Honestly I was thinking about paddling out to the mile buoy. I've got a couple spots in that vicinity that I like to fish. I don't think my lower back is up to that far of a paddle (about 4 miles to pleasure point and back). I've been lazy over the winter and I need to do more mellow paddlling to get my lower back into shape. If I remember correctly the paddle back would also be against the wind. I hate to wuss out cause that sounds like a great time but I know what my back is capable of right now and that just sounds like too much.

Hhmm...I'm having second thoughts about heading out to the ocean tomorrow. My office is right across from the harbor and it's pretty windy right now. Monterey buoy says it's blowing at 15kts and gusting up to 19kts. Weather reports for tomorrow are calling for 13kt winds early in the morning. If it's anything like this tomorrow morning I'll definitely be heading to Pinto. I don't want to go through all the trouble of getting my gear ready and in the water only to be blown off the water an hour later. At least at Pinto I can use my anchor.

So...unless I post up otherwise, as of now it's Pinto. I hope for a change in the forecast but I'm not counting on it.

If you guys head out to the salt please post a report.

Pinto anyone?

Ya, I'm in the same boat Deva. Once again being indecisive. But I've narrowed down my options to either Lake San Antonio, Moss Landing, Monterey, or Pinto (normally wouldn't go there but interested now that you might be going).
-San Antonio = S shore for hot smallie bite, decent LMB, and chance for stripers
-Moss Landing = halibut, flatfish, stripers, or salmon (if the season hasn't been closed by 5pm today)
-Monterey = same targets as Moss with the additional chance for ocean whitefish, calico bass, sheephead, etc
-Pinto Lake = LMB and planter trout

I need to make a decision soon. But my decision will be impacted by the actions of the Office of Administrative Law (and how soon they adopt the reg changes. http://www.fgc.ca.gov/regulations/new/2008/proposedregs08.asp#27_80
Because if it still says "Effective Date of Regulation: pending" at 5pm tonight, then I am going to Moss.

EDIT: Wow, I just checked the current wind at the Monterey bouy (actually 27 miles W of the Bay) and it is blowing pretty hard, like 15-17kts right now. That seems weird though because I was at the beach in Marina from 5-7 yesterday and it was not windy at all. It was actually very nice. No stripers though.

FF

I am up for a mellow paddle, to the mile buoy, there are a couple good spots there and a slow drift towards pleasure point, then a left turn back into the harbor.

I'm willing, keep me posted.

Crappy. It is NOW official. Salmon season is closed. Check this link: http://www.fgc.ca.gov/regulations/new/2008/27_80eregsfinal.pdf
It figures....the one time our gub'ment works quickly and efficiently.

So that squashes my plans to go out of Moss this wknd. Bummer.
Now I am considering either Pinto or Coyote. Sorry about the thread-jack FF. I'm just thinking out loud.

Should have been there. It was flat calm until noon. I fished for flat thing for a while for nada. I got fluked by two Humpbacks pretty cool but not in time to get the camera on. Only one legal Dungeness in the pots today. I know I put them in the wrong place when I set them on Friday. Oh well next week is looking good.
