Look out for Jdyak... rumor has it he's going for broke on the AOTY contest this year.  :smt002  Here's the latest addition to his quiver.

It's a Rainshadow SWS696 blank which is graphite / fiberglass composite.  It is trimmed back to 7'6" and rated for 15-40# line and 1-4 oz lures, though I'm confident it'll handle jigs up to 6 oz or 8 oz, maybe more.

This blank has a powerful butt section with a farily light tip (not a noodly tip though) and a nice parabolic action when fully flexed, good for fishing with spectra line.

Guides are solid titanium framed Fuji guides with SiC rings (TSVSG, TNSG, and TMNST tip).  Acid wrapped and double over-wrapped for extra durability.  They'll never corrode and are extremely light weight.

Grips are EVA foam covered with X-shrink tubing making for a very firm and durable grip that feels great in the hand.  Extended foregrip for added floatation.  Complete with NCKA logo and tiger holographic wrap for an aesthetic touch.

John, I'm looking forward to your feedback once you get a chance to use it.  Hope it brings you lots of luck.

Poor John, he's going to be too scared to take that rod out and get it dirty! :smt002   Another fine job Erik, I think I can see the reflection from here. :smt003

Sorry... the waiting list is full... I need to get through my current orders before baby #2 comes in late May.  Then it's anyone's guess... unless we suddenly start having 30 hour days, then I'll be taking orders again.

The rod came in the mail today, it is amazing! :smt007  The craftsmanship is just unbelievable.  After seeing Erik's custom rods at all the raffles and hoping to win,  I decided it would be better to put an order in.  I contacted Erik in July and we discussed my preferences and was put on the waiting list.  My details were a rod over 7' that I could use for either rockfish, sturgeon, salmon, an all around Bay, Ocean rod.

Erik designed it to float although I will always use a lanyard.  The blank is a graphite black color with black grips, and blue wrap for the guides.

Going Sturgeon fishing tomorrow, so it may get broken in right.

John

BTW -- the picture looks gold to me, checked it on a couple of different computers and the same result.

Glad you got it John... good luck this weekend.  Nice tides... you should have some action!

Not sure why the picture looks gold.  Looks like silver trim on both my computers.   The tip top looks a little more gold than it should because of the indoor lighting.  Oh well...

Seeing other people get a custom kunz is almost as much fun as getting one yourself. almost...  :smt002

nice rod john, hope you get to catch a fish worthy of it soon!

I generally fish mine with no lanyard (except when paddling around) and used a little extra flotation on the foregrip the first year.

I tried fishing with the rod attached to the kayak, I hate that, it's confining and annoying.  :smt012

regarding lanyards, compa told me of guys that use a "mouse-tail", a lanyard that comes from the butt of the rod.

one idea is to use a float with a lanyard and attach the rod to that. a little less hassle than tying it to the boat.

what might also work is to tie the lanyard to your own pfd or something instead of the boat.

anyway, have fun!
