Was flying around in google earth out side of silycon bally and located San Antonio just up from Calaveras res.  Is San Antonio open to fishing?  If so, has any one fished it?  It seems really close.  I'll be heading over to a bass site after this to see if there are any reports listed on it for the lake.
I tried a search here and 0 came up

There are some guys on another website that sneak into San Antonio and Calaveras and absolutely CRUSH big bass and wild trout. They've got pics of fatty trout caught while bass fishing with raps, plastics, and (of all things) a bayou boogie.
It would be cool to try it once. But then you'd be really tempted to go back again and again if the fishing really was that hot.
Maybe one day...and then Crystal Springs!

Yeah I know about Lake San Antonio, although its just a little to far for me to drive to.
My luck I'd sneak into San Antonio Reser. and get caught!  Float tube might be more stealthy?

I fished Calaveras a few times in High School,

Every cast, did not matter,  Nice Toads....

Then a Ranger confronted us one day, " You Boys are Tresspassing " :glasses2:

my fishing buddy, also arrogant lead singer in my present band O the Day,

Tells the Ranger " So What, There is 2 of us and only one of you!!!... "

Gun Toting Ranger tilts his sundowner glasses down and pulls up a shotgun out of his boat...

" Hit the Ground!!!! " Drawing down on us,

Drunken fools that we were, start running up the hill with Ranger Rick stopping to draw down on us everytime we

looked back.... We had hid our gear and upon return it was gone.

I bet he got a pretty good laugh out of that and some nice fishing gear...

Danglin,

I've heard about those "toads" in there. You were one of the lucky ones who actually got to fish that reservior huh?  :smt003 I've also heard it holds a good population of landlocked steelhead that were caught behind the dam when it got built.

To bad it was ever built, the creek that it damned up was once a fine steelhead fishery. I read an old book about it a long time ago.

Ya, It is a major a toad farm,

WE never got to fish long, maybe 15min to a half hour before the little boats would come.

Once we reconed in by walking aprox 5 miles or so on Calaveras rd as not to be spotted driving in,

even then, they spotted us on the banks.

Every cast was a hook up, average of 3lbs

You know   those guys (the rangers) were hooking up all the time!  If they were looking for people all the time, it was just so THEY wouldn't get busted fishing!
