I made a long run down to Big Sur on Saturday, trying to retrieve my lost spear and get some lings before the closure. The condition was good when I was starting out, about 20 ft of vis, then the vis deterioated to 5-6 ft by day's end, with gnarly waves. I spent 4 hours in the water swimming around and checking out crevices. Not many fish were out. No ling, no red.... and no spear. I had to take what I can get, the 3 largest fish I saw are on this stringer... the ocean may not give me another chance at this spot for the next half year!
Anyone has a good sheephead recipe?

DUDE!
Nice job leony! Those are some beautiful sheepshead. Its always cool to see exotic fish caught.

We're gonna have to hook up again soon so you can show me the way of the Jedi spearfisher. We can even use my yak as the mothership.

Thanks for the report+pics!

Nice fish. When I used to live in So. Cal and fished the Catalina Island a lot we would catch them, most people said they were not good to eat. My friend told me they were crazy and he instructed me to boil them until bright white and the chill until really cold, then whip out the cocktail sauce and eat. Tasted much like crab or shrimp cocktail and was firm in consistency. Pretty good as I remember, though this was a good 20 years ago. How about on the barbecue on some foil with butter, salt, pepper, fresh garlic, and some chili flakes? Good luck.  Mike
