SWS 10/8/07 Monday

Got there about 6:50 to a very pretty sunrise, a few high clouds, clear and bright on the deck. The cove very calm, but at about Pesc. Pt, it was somewhat bumpy with about 8-10 wind and a little swell.  By the time I got to the Pt, the wind had shifted from the east to west, and it never let up, in fact increased to about 15 about 11.  Got into the kelp and on the edges and got a few med rockies, and one underling- very pretty fish, a yellow orange color-then trolled in the legal area and got a few more med rockies.  Got some of the rockies on the copper pipe (filled with a piece of rebar, and hook on the bottom) jig.
Came in about noon, fog creeping into Carmel very low on the water, great for photos - I think that's the cause of the wind earlier.

Thanks for the report Tom. Except for the wind it sounded like a great day. WTG on the home made jigs. I think I'm going to start looking into that a bit. Time to hit up Orchard Supply

Tom can paddle like a madman too  He can cover water - especially during Salmon season 

Photo of the jig/lures I made that day(top to bottom):
1.Pipe jig with rebar filling,
2.(model)Favorite (cheap)floating diver rockfish/ling/halibut  trolling lure:Cabella's Fisherman series Walleye Runner(the long one)
3.Short pipe lure ( I broke a long piece trying to put a bend in the pipe- it snaps easily, plumbers probably like that, I guess I could try heating it) (I filled it with foam to see if it would float, sunk like a mineral.)
4.Long pipe lure (also filled with foam, same results)
5.(Not shown) PVC pipe lure- I tried cutting and bending a bill on a piece of pipe, I gave it up.  I'm sure it can be done with more heat and good gloves, but this is supposed to be easy and not burn the garage down or put me in the burn center.
 I tried the long pipe lure but got nothing. It more kited from one 1' tack to the other than wobbled like the Runner. I’ll have to tweak it a little with my hammer.

As for paddling for salmon: I got zero fish for my effort this year.  I could have done that tied to the dock. Wait  til next year!

I love the jigs...

But what is SWS???  I know I'm gonna feel stupid...

The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.  Stillwater Cove South (Pebble Beach, Carmel), to distinguish it from Stillwater in Marin or thataways.
