Hey all,
I am tenatively planning to camp+fish at Lake San Antonio the wknd of October 26-28. Lake San Antonio is approx 1.5 hours south of Salinas (much less is you drive fast). San Anton' has largemouth, smallmouth, spotted, and striped bass. As well as catfish, crappie, bluegill, squawfish, and carp. The fishing is decent; nothing spectacular [unless the stripers are corralling shad in the coves, in which case its downright epic].

There are two campgrounds: one on the North Shore and one on the South Shore. I will probably camp at the South Shore, towards Harris Creek. The good campsites (which I fully intend to get) are very close to the lake. You can just carry/wheel your kayak to the water's edge and launch right there. The water level is kind of low right now so it might be about 100yds to the water…not too bad.

The campsites on the North Shore are right on the water BUT there are no trees/shade. And the facilities aren't as appealing as the South Shore. This campground is very family oriented with playgrounds, clean bathrooms, and a general store.

The main reason we are planning this trip is that we have some free camping passes. My wife and I camp here a few times each year with friends, but we didn't make it this summer because of little Duke, who was born June 30. We think it might be time to take the little guy camping now that he's sleeping longer at night. And its close enough that my wife can drive home if Duke isn't ready to camp.

Since it’s the off-season we should have the place to ourselves. October is some of the best weatehr in Monterey Co so it will still be somewhat warm (at least during the day). And I sure as heck won't let these free camping passes go to waste!

Let me know if you're interested in joining us for the wknd (or even just a day trip).
I will update this Hookup as we get closer to the actual wknd. I've got some pics to upload too.
