Was thinking about this the other day about adding crabs to AOTY.  It's a little too easy to go buy a live crab vs having to catch one.  Probably the same with crayfish.   :smt004

Crabs probably not the easiest for exact measurements unless you buy a special tool. The crab gauge measurements are to generic.

Was wondering the other day - why aren't sharks on the list?

Sharks can be a real pain to land and attain proper measurements without killing them, and we didn't want to encourage people to kill sharks for AOTY points. We felt it was best to just keep them out of the competition.

That being said, many CA sharks are fantastic gamefish. Thresher sharks are about as close to "big game" fishing that NorCal kayak anglers are going to find, and landing one should be considered a helluva feat in its own right.

That's fair, they would be pretty tricky to get an accurate measure on, especially if not intending to keep it. I've never eaten one, but I've caught a fair number as bycatch.  Great fighters, and it is always fun catching a big fish, even if it isn't your intended target.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
