I got a rockfish and got to meet some of the original kayak fishing OGs!

Thanks Glen for putting this on and hooking me up with the hand line! It felt very intuitive to fish with even though I only had the one bite.

Well my fears of catching a fish on a handline have been calmed. Trolled anchovies the whole morning and at one point I was pretty sure I had a bite so I stopped paddling, and let out some line and waited, then waited a little more. I yanked the line and the started pulling in line.

I only felt the weight at first then more weight. I worked it up to where I could see it was a keeper halibut. Got the gaff ready, and lifted it up but my arm isn’t as long as a pole so I had to pull up line well into the leader before I could get a shot. Perfect gaff and onto the clip. 1 Bite 1 fish for me today. Thank you Glen for putting this on, and serving lunch today.

I don’t know if it is official but I believe the final results were:

1. Keil 37” 19lbs
2. Sonny 30.25
3. Keil 27”
4. MarkL 25 1/4”

What a great day out there. Love seeing all the OGs out there together. It's a blessing to
see everyone, especially how long we have all known each other!! Couldn't have asked for a better day.

Thanks GLEN for taking the time to make this happen. Fishing is just an excuse to for us to get back together.

Andy and I went for the day and arrived around 9:00am to what looked like a lake instead of the windy bay. We hung out in the awesome weather and walked down the rockwall and talked to a bunch of people fishing, tossing net's for some smelt, cooking out there on the rocks tacos, it was a real good time out there on the wall, but didn't see any fish aside from bait being caught.

From the rockwall you can see the U.S.S Hornet and the path from the parking lot leads right to it, so we went.  We paid and did the self tours of the flight deck and checked out the view from the top, it was very very nice out there to say the least.  Andy got a kick out of all the old planes and helicopters. We headed back and caught up with everyone just as people were getting off the water and got to hang out with some cool mf og's of NCKA and eat some grub, tell some stories, see some fish caught, and hear the bragging rights of those that placed.  Just awesome every time the gang can get together and hang out.

Few pics
