How to subdue Lingzilla

We know and love him as Abking (Eric) but what you didn't know is that he's also a Ling king. Watching him fight and land that Big fish was awesome. I had a great time fishing the cape with Eric on what was a gorgeous Humboldt day. Got my first ling of the season as well as a red and 6 blacks and and a blue. Here are some pics of the takedown and eventual release of Grandma Ling

Where were you guys fishing?  It looks like a pretty sweet spot... I'm not familiar with the Humboldt coast.

We were fishing around Cape mendocino (Humboldt county).

That background and FAC water makes it look like that could be the east side of Anderson Lake!  Nice!!

Thanks for posting that, Hawk.  I've got to say that I cherish the opportunities I've had to yak with NCKA, and hanging with a pro guide who whips out the SLR for action shots is like a fantasy for me.  Thank you, man, so much.

PS:  You can see in Hawk's photos that I had the blue and silver 6.5 oz. Megabait on the 2nd rod in the rear holder - I was getting too many blacks on that, so I'd switched and the ling came on a 6 oz. leadhead with weird greenish yellow 8" split tail.  I'd just pulled out of a momentary snag when the ling slammed it, so watch for those kind of opportunities!  (envisioning that fishy-looking leadhead with plastic suddenly darting out of the rocks/kelp and mama ling ambushing it HARD!   )

Oh yeah, I had a tour in trinidad today and pulled up a decent ling on my SIK. The clients s@#T their pants when they saw it. I gave it to the owner of the B&B they're staying at to cook for their dinner. Can you say HUUUGE TIP!
