HOLY SHIT! Glad your safe!! Can't believe this happened to you guys  :smt011 glad your safe and brought your radio! Glad the coasties made it out to you quickly and that you at least recovered both your yaks. Do you have Gps coordinates of where you tipped? I have scuba and free dived that area before and might be able to look around out there if the current hasnt taken it.

Wes

Thanks for offering to help.
Approximately quarter mile offshore at the edge of the outer kelp beds. You can keep the Contour. It should be OK since it was in a waterproof case. Dad says it should be Ok up to 60 feet but it was around 30-40 feet. He only want the memory card back with his videos from vacation in Hawaii. Did I mention his G Loomis rod and AbuGaecia reel? That's the major stuff he want's back. Thanks for your help.

Glad you guys are OK and that you had that radio, it certainly made a bad situation better, maybe saved a life.

You might want to move this on to a "This Happend to me" post, we all need to to be reminded of the stuff that can go wrong, also the reason that the yak filled with water is really important as it may apply to others out there and prevent someone from having the same experience.

Great story with a good ending.

Good points Dale.  Having the right safety gear made the difference between having some lost gear and maybe a lost life.

My first question was how did that water get in there?  If is was something that others can learn from then it could be really good to share.  This also illustrates the need to learn to self rescue in adverse conditions.  I've had difficulty before and was really thankful I had friends around to help me get back in.  My "safety gear" caught on the yak every time I tried to get back over the edge.  If you don't practice wearing the same things you normally would and with your yak outfitted with all the gear, then how do you know just what troubles you might encounter.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll just drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience.

The Revo front hatch is not water tight and water could get in. Especially if you have a Hobie bucket in the front hatch.
Also: the front hatch is closed by bungees.

Whoa! Thanks for sharing your story, Vesper.
I saw you guys on the news...actually my wife saw it & recorded it so I could see it later. She figured i probably knew who it was LOL! And i even rewound it to read the sticker on the yak because it said Fishing Addict haha but it wasn't Mel (fishing addict). I'm so glad to hear you two are ok. Your story could help someone else in the future, so thanks for sharing it.
Now go and find out how the water got in because that's important. Hose it down w/soapy water & look for leaks or bubbles. Because you don't want to pedal* a leaky yak. And it c/b replaced under warranty or something.

I'm sorry to hear that! I was going back and saw CG rushing out and fire righter's siren ...
I thought something must be wrong somewhere!

Thanks for sharing! I use to leave open my Outback openings (storing stuff), bc I feel the Hobbie is very stable. Your post prove me wrong and I'll be more cautious.

Cheers,
