Although, just once, I want to see somebody do it with a kayak fully equipped because an empty kayak isn't a good representation of the real deal.

Short and sweet.  dilbeck is right - it might take and extra 15 to 20 seconds though when loaded up.  Might have to try that with some old fishing gear in place of the good stuff.  Even that would not be long in the water.  Then drag every leashed thing back on board, paddle around to pick up all the floating stuff (if any).

Just don't think that because it says it will float,  it will sink instantly .  overturn my yak two sundays ago, lost rod reel and a 8/18 stainles steel water bottle that was to float.  I now haveenough leashes for every thing.

Be careful with leashes and lanyards, I had my feet tied when I went over in Shelter Cove.  Be smart and keep leashes to a min, and no loose cords in the cockpit area.

I had to use the self-rescue on my very first kayak fishing trip outta CGP. Pretty scary stuff when I tipped over, but was surprised at how quickly I got back on lol!! Only thing on my mind was hoping that nothing big would grab me from underneath

That was pretty cool. Falling in is the funnest part! I usually have to grab the scuppers and pull it towards me to flip it back over. It looked like he pushed it over from underneath, away from him, if that makes sense lol.

Yeah, it's true but I think depends on how much gear you bring along. All I have beyond what's on in the vid is a tackle box. I flipped once in the surf and it filled partially with water. The yak was harder to turn over than when empty but not much difference. I think getting the feeling of what you're supposed to do is most important. And do you really want to soak all your gear on purpose anyway?

I agree with keeping leashed to a minimum, but I usually have 4: 2 for the rods, and 2 for gamebag & gameclip.
