Has there ever been an official NCKA event in Big Sur? (Aside from the Chef Memorial. Heck, maybe we can even dedicate the event to Chef?)

I am trying to gauge interest in a Big Sur NCKA event. Who would be interested?
We can either get a group site at Plaskett Creek campground or we could just reserve a bunch of sites at Kirk Creek campground.

And YES I know there are still 106 days until rockfish season opens. Call it a case of premature ejubilation hahaha!
Thanks for your input,
PK

EDIT: this w/b an unofficial ncka event and ncka would assume no liability whatsoever. Just a bunch of friends who want to get together and catch fish.

Hey PK, I'd totally be down for something like that.  You can bring some of that good rockfish mojo of yours! (saw your post on PFIC, nice haul!)

I think this sounds like a good idea too. I like any excuse to get to Big Sur.

Pat -

I was thinking of organizing one at Mill Creek this year using the AOTD format and limited to 20 anglers. I don't think the beach can hold more than 20 and you know what happens if your yak isn't far enough up the beach.  :smt005 Limekiln is out IMHO because of the ranger issues and surf and all of the other Big Sur launches marginal for a derby. Need to talk it over with the boys first to see if they are interested since they are not very competetive and somewhat reclusive.  :smt044

We'd be in for sure, although I still fancy opening day at Shelter Cove.

I'm committed to fishing El Sur Grande this year, so I'd be interested.

I checked www.recreation.gov and all 3 group sites at Plaskett Creek are available the wknd of September 25-27. Each group site can accommodate 40 people and 10 cars (and dogs are allowed).

PK, I've been thinking the same thing for some time.... making it a camping event and Chef Memorial tribute and all.  I'm down if you guys don't mind setting it up and finding dates that work.  I like the scenic views at the Kirk Creek campground, but the Plaskett Creek group sites might suit us better.

The fishin-n-chilln with MBF format might be the way to go.  Something for everyone including the dogs.
