Hit Stillwell for the first time today with my son Joel. Launched about 08:00 and headed north. First kayakers I ran into were e2g and his son. They had caught a few blues but commented that fishing was rather slow. We headed out to a little deeper water and dropped our lines. It was hit and miss for most of the day but managed to bring home a nice stringer of rockfish.

I must say that NCKA was well represented today at Stillwater. In addition to e2g and his son were Sc X factor, Sin Coast, Yakhopper, Northern Boy and I even heard SackYak on the radio.

Just as we were getting ready to head in to the cove, I heard some commotion coming from Sin Coast and saw that his rod was bendo. I paddled on over just in time to see him land another monster ling.  Ended up having a productive day and really enjoyed meeting the other NCKAers. Here are a couple of photos with the first being my son Joel with our catch of the day. The second and third photos is Sin Coast and monster ling

Ben, nice meeting you and Joel.  Nice seeing all you guys again.  PK of course shows at a civilized hour and promptly shows us up.

we netted a keeper ling, cab, and greenling, and had hit and miss action on blues and a few olilves.  One belly hooked under ling, which fought like mad.

My wife will kill me and CPS will probably hunt me down, but Nathan (Gumby) has been wanting to do a handstand on the kayak "in the middle of the ocean" since his coral street stunt.  He deemed that too easy.  Figured, why not, and let him have at it.  My achievement of the day was getting a little comfortable side saddle. DOH!

Thanks for the great pics Ben! I always forget to take on the water pics.
Proud to say I caught my new new personal best lingcod today! It was 36 inches long and weighed 18lbs 11ozs! This thing had a massive noggin. And a really big mouth.

Caught it drifting a 2.5oz sardine Megabait w/a white hoochie trailer. Wasn't even jigging the lure, just slowly cranking it up when the ling hit. It didn't fight real hard, more like dead weight with massive head-shakes. Thought it was a halibut. Finally saw it about 10ft below the yak and knew it was another big ling. But it was no match for the custom Kunz Gaff. As I brought it up, I kept it subsurface and retreived the gaff with my off hand. As soon as it broke the surface I nailed perfectly through the roof of its mouth and out its head. It went ballistic as I tried to put it on the clip. I had to "subdue" this beast.

Otherwise, it was a pretty slow day of fishing. I caught a few small blues, an olive, brown, grass, and cabezon. It was slow for Ryan too. He only caught about 5 fish, I think. Great to see Northern Boy and his wife out there! They made the trek down from SF and got into some rockfish. Right on. And it was also good to see Ben and Joel, Eugene and his son (what, no handstands?), Ken, and Etienne and family. Yeah, NCKA was well represented.

Here's a couple pics. More to come!
