Anybody going to Del Valle?

I am planning to go fishing on Sat but not sure where to go. I'd like to try for bass or trout (need to get on that AOTY board!). But if nobody is game, I'll just stick to the local steelhead rivers this wknd. Or, if anybody is interested in hitting one of the Cen Coast Rivers with me, let me know (sans yak, of course).

Thanks for the info!

I am desperately trying to negotiate for a san pablo bay (shell bank area) sturgeon run...weak tides, but i'd probably launch about 9...and be off h2o by 1

if that doesn't work then its sunday

Still undecided as yet here. What I really need to do is finish getting rigged up to fish for sturgeon. But until then I might hit the delta somewhere and take advantage of the new two rod stamp.

Del Valle might be a good bet for trout it looks like this week they are or have gotten a 1000lbs of trout.

Good Luck,

Jeff

Alright, I've narrowed it down to 3 options: (as if anybody really cares...but I'm bored, so I'm just gonna keep typing LOL)
-Del Valle for trout, SMB, LMB, stripers
-Coyote Lake for trout, LMB
-South Bay for sturgeon, stripers

Google maps says its 2 hours to Del Valle but only 1.5 hours to the launch on the E side of Dumbarton Br. Although, I have not fished for sturgeon yet, I'm gonna have to get started some time. And, I guess the only additional gear I'll need is a snare, quick-release for my anchor, and bait.
Hmmmm....where to go....hmmmmm.

After the storms the only lake in the south bay that is fishable is Anderson. And I don't think coyote has been planted with trout yet.

Yes, finally the two rod stamp allows fishing in the delta. Now we can anchor up and bait fish and cast a few artificials at the tules. Actually I will use it most to drift for stripers while trying to make more bait. But being able to throw some artificials while waiting or better yet being able to fish for stripers while waiting for a sturgeon bite sounds great to me.

From the DFG website at    http://www.dfg.ca.gov/news/news07/07099.html

Second-Rod Stamp (effective Jan. 1, 2008)

The second-rod stamp will now be valid in inland waters except those waters in which only artificial lures or barbless hooks may be used. See sections 7.00 and 7.50 of the sport fishing regulations for the waters where only artificial lures or barbless hooks may be used and Section 1.53 for the definition of inland waters.

From the 2007-2008 Inland fishing regulations:

Section 1.53.  Inland Waters. Inland waters are all the fresh, brackish and inland saline waters of the state,  including lagoons and tidewaters upstream from the mouths of coastal rivers and streams. Inland waters exclude the waters of San Francisco and San Pablo bays downstream from Carquinez Bridge, the tidal portions of rivers and streams flowing into San Francisco and San Pablo Bays,  and the waters of Elkhorn Slough, west of Elkhorn Road between Castroville and Watsonville.  Also see Section 27.00.

I want to say that over on Coastside there is a question about the Napa river and where it falls in all of this. I am guessing it is considered not inland water as it flows in SP Bay and is or has a tidal portion. But I haven't really been following that as I don't get out that way. Almost all of my fishing in the delta these days is from the Antioch bridge north and east so I know I am in a safe zone. Now what is interesting is it appears to me that the SF Bay and SP Bay are now special zones as they are not technically ocean water and they clearly are not inland water either. So still just one rod there I think but again I am not so up on those areas.

Good Luck everybody!

And thanks for the great info, Jeff. It'll be great to drop bait and chuck a lure at the same time! Can't wait.

i dont have one of them fancy radios so if you see 3 rednecks floatin in a blow up kayak and a tarpon 120 and a precept sit in, that would be us.

So i have a question, is that place goin to be totally packed with people? This will be my first visit to the lake

I wouldn't expect it to be very busy w/the recent weather, and it being Winter. But I browsed the fishsniffer trout board and saw numerous posts stating they'd be fishing DV this wknd (from their boats).

And Thanks for the heads-up, shotgun! I'll keep an eye out for ya. This redneck will be bringing 2 of dem fancy radios in case somebody wants to borrow one. I'll be in my yellow T140.

EDIT: Got an invite to fish with the local steelhead legend. Its one of those 'offers you can't refuse' type thing. I hope you nail em tomorrow shotgun! Good luck man!
