We'll be towing our travel trailer to the Bay Area next month and would like to camp in a redwood forest.  There must be campgrounds situated in the redwoods somewhere between Monterey and Santa Cruz.  Any recommendations?

thanks,
Nate

If you want to camp in the redwoods I would reccomend Henry Cowell SP. If you want to be close to the coast, new brighton, sunset, seacliff. The last 3 are not in the redwoods. Reservations are almost for sure a must and they limit the number of days you can camp in the area.

Here is a link to a thread about camping in this general area.

Henry Cowell is beautiful. Same goes for Big Basin. Both are located off HWY 9 above Santa Cruz.
There are also a LOT of private (non-state or county) campgrounds up there and most accomodate trailers. Might be a little bit more expensive but they probably have better facillities.

Both Henry Cowell and Big Basin are great recommendations. Loch Lomond is just a hop, skip and a jump away.

I think Loch Lomond will be closing for the season on September 15th.

Good point. Soooooo... Lexington is just hop, skip and a longer jump from hwy 9. Also if the surf and weather cooperates you could launch off the beach at Cowells to do some fishing in the ocean. Another option but a longer drive would be Pinto Lake which is in Watsonville.

Thanks.  We want to spend a couple days in the area going to MBA, enjoying the wharf...etc.  So we don't want to be on the other side of hwy 17 (Lexington).

Thanks,
Nate
