Way to nail those stripers. I was imagining I was there when I was at work yesterday.

Don't fish that you give away count towards your limit?

Esdel,

Also, just saw that 10 to 25 (forgot how many) guys got caught for over limits and undersize stripers in the delta.  These guys all had fishing licenses.  But, did not care about the rules.

These people, three married couples and others, 14 in all, were an organized poaching ring. DFG had them under servalence for a month before the bust. They were catching and selling hundreds of stripers a month to local fish markets and restaurants. So, they lost their boats, complete with "seceret compartments" and all fishing gear. license to fish for life and will maybe see some big fines and jail time to boot. There are better ways to make money. Tom                                                                                                                   Del Valle is on my short list to fish next.

Great report guys! I really want to hit Del Valle sometime soon...your reports are making me jealous!

FFR: each fish you keep or give away (or use for bait) counts toward your daily bag limit. However, I had trouble finding the regs for Del Valle stripers online...is it 2 or 5 or ?

Joel how did your bait tube work out for you sounds like it brought you some luck. Wish I could have been there but had to paint the living-room Honey Dos next time.

great report frank, those are some nice results had by all.  The pics make you feel like your there.  But, the bickering about the regs in this report is bs.  reminds me of Pierfishing.com's message board.  lets address this stuff somewhere else on the board and leave it out of a mans report.

A private message to the guy who has made the post is more effective.  I only feel this way because of previous messageboard experiences...  my 2 cents  jtf..

Yes JTF, you are right.  Sorry for my unnecessary BS.  Nice day you guys had there, better than my day recovering from food poisoning.

There are some lakes with higher limits for stripers such as New Hogan's Lake:

For most fly fishers this is a top water Striper fishery. It is best in the warmer months of July through September. August is a prime time month on New Hogan. Here you need a boat with an outboard motor to fish this larger open body of water. At any time from daylight till dark you can see schools of Stripers chasing schools of tiny Threadfin Shad to the surface. It is very exciting fishing but it is not real easy catching for most. It is something you need to see for yourself because it is as close to wild salt water fishing as you can get. Most normally go out in different areas on the lake and wait for the Stripers to start surfacing after the Shad. You then motor over in that direction shutting down and drifting to the outside edge of the school and then casting into it with a larger tropical floating line and a small light colored Shad imitation. The fish run 3 to 6 pounds and seem to be stunted. Some fish get bigger but most are in this size range. The limit is 10 fish and it is a great place to keep and kill fish to eat. You are actually helping out the situation and these fish are very 'clean' not being subject to the agricultural pollution of the Delta and river fish. The North and South Fork of the Calaveras River flow into New Hogan.

JTF,

This is not "bickering" it is about sharing the "Knowledge".  I learn something.  I thought is was OK to catch & release after having your two stripers.  Now, I know better.  I will fish the forebay with one striper and then when I am ready to leave will catch the other one.

Also, there are probably a lot of people who don't know all the regs.  Even, the rangers, Fish & Game wardens and local police do not know.  Unlike yourself.............JTF.

I cant really point fingers about this subject, not long ago I myself was guilty of coming and posting something in someones thread that potentially embarrased them or made them feel as though i was chastising them.  After further thought on the matter it made me feel like I was being a dick.  I thought that maybe if I had pm'd them that they could have had a chance to edit their report if they thought it was necessary.

So, then, a little while after that a guy came on and posted a pic of himself with cabezons.  He wasn't a friend of mine but I thought i would pm him and give him a chance to clear out his mistake,(and yes, it was obviously a mistake on his part.)   The matter was resolved and the guy was saved from being flamed.  So everyone makes mistakes, obviously, from not knowing the regs, 'cept for JTF, I know all the regs.

THe thing that irritated me on my read of the report was the fact that you(ken) just informed them of their wrong doing and didn't even care to compliment their catch or ask any questions about what techniques or rigs they were using.  Just a little jab, sort of like the one you just directed towards me.  So, with that being said :thefinger: you have yourself a nice time trying to think of way to come back and put me in my place.  ..........JTF
