Looking at all the different names on the board I always wonder what some of them mean and how they were derived.
I thought it might be fun to share the origin of your name. ( Bill, I think most of us have yours figured out ).
My last name is Totaro and I have been called Tote since the 6th or 7th grade. I usually answer to it before I answer to Mike.
That's my story. What's yours?

There is Nor Cal.
There is So Cal
Then there is Cen Cal. Thats where my name came from...Cen sounds kinda like Sin. And the fishing in Cen Cal can be downright sinful. In a good way.

Plus, its the same handle I use on a couple other websites. Don't want to have too many names+whatnot to remember.

"ChuckE" lacks a bit of creativity, but my last name is Espiritu.  Besides, my closest family and friends call me "Chuckie".

ChuckE... not that creative.  My last name is Espiritu.

Personally, I'd like to know where Allen "polepole" got his screen name.

Polepole is a Swahili word meaning "slowly, go slowly, gently, gradually, take it easy".  Is is actually 4 syllables, as opposed to the 2 syllables most people call me by.  Pronounced pol'-eh-pol'-eh.

In 2001 I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.  All the local guides were constantly saying "polepole", telling us to go slowly and take it one step at a time.  I don't know if you've ever climbed a mountain, but there is a certain intense concentration that occurs in just putting one step in front of the other, especially when you are exhausted but still have miles to go.  I associate polepole with this concentration and I try to apply it in my everyday life.  Those of you who know me, know that it takes a lot to rattle me.  I take things as they come and make the best out of it.  Well, at least I like to think I do.   :smt004

Alan = Al

When you go by Al, you get a lot of nicknames from friends:
Big Al (like that fits me..ha! :smt002), Albert, Alfred, Alberto, Alfons, Alfonso, Alfredo...

I chose Alfredo for no good reason...but you can call me Al. :smt006

Mine is pure advertising... wish it was more creative than that.

Kunz's Reel Rods is the name of my rodbuilding business.  I figured KZReelRods sounded OK.

I've had thoughts of shortening it to just KZ... we'll see... maybe.

I've had lots of nicknames back in the day that would also have made OK handles... maybe one day I'll make a change.

"Kunzy", "Big Daddy Kunz", "Koon Dog Thunder" (from the high school swim team days), "Papa" and "Papa-y-Papa" (no idea how those came to be).

Mine's  a carry over from Pierfishing.com.

When I first started getting back into fishing I spent most of my time learning how to fish the jettys at Doran Park. A few of my friends and I can pretty much run down the length of the jetty we've spent so much time on it.

Hence the name - Rock Hopper.

My name was simply a combination of the two things I like doing -- paddling and flyfishing.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!

It was the name of the biggest fish I've caught so far in Acapulco back in 1998.   I still recall the vivid color of this beautiful Sailfish!

My screen name originated when I found the SDFish.com website in 2001.

I was looking to find tips on bass fishing.  I'm  a molecular biologist by training so I chose the handle "The Molecular Basser".

For some reason I like to type my handle at the end of every message, and I post lots of messages and I got tired of typing out the whole thing and shortened it to MolBasser.

Mine is really unfortunate... "bsteves"  becuase everyone sees the "steve" portion of the name and assumes that  is my first name.  When I signed up for this forum (the first that I've actually participated in) I simply used my usual log in which is derived (first initial last name) from my full name "Brian Steves".   This was the username of my first e-mail account back in 1990 and at this point it's easy for me to remember.  I guess when I signed up here, I didn't think much about it as a handle.

Anyway, I've thought about changing it, but at this point I really don't care anymore.

usagi_pj = "usagi" is Japanese for "rabbit".  My last name is Rabbitt (note the extra 't' that helps distinguish me from a certain storybook character), and my first name is Pete.  Yes...Peter Rabbitt.  As I tell my karate students on the first day of class, laugh now, and get it over with.  :smt002  And, no - while the PJ does represent my initials, my middle name isn't "Jack".  Yes, I've heard it all before.  All of it.  Trust me.  Like the boy named Sue, I had a choice of learning how to fight, or developing a sense of humor.  I went with both!   :-D

I once had a friend whose last name was Paine.  His father's name was Richard ... aka Dick Paine.  Now here's the kicker.  He served in the militaray ... yup, Major Dick Paine.
