How about the proceeds from the raffle at Bendo@Mendo?

Some far we don't have a raffle going, but this is a great idea.  We have already dedicated some of the funds from the tourney itself, but like Jim we will do some skimming too.

If you don't know Chef he's is a terrific dude that really needs our help!

The thing that most impresses me with NCKA is the camaraderie and overall friendliness of everyone involved. When something goes wrong, we take care of our own. Dude has a kayak ripped off, we band together and take care of it as a whole.
We need to band together and take care of Chef as best we can.
Give what you can. No matter how little you might think it is, anything is better than nothing. Just do it.
Let's take care of our bro.

Um, sure we do, Sean.

So far, West Marine is providing some goodies.  And I just stumbled across a couple of brand new, raffle-ready reels:  An Abu 6500C3 and a Shimano TR 200.

Who's organizing this thing anyway?

Randy

Sounds like we have a voluteer :-)

Seriously I will be happy to put a raffle on at Mendo. All proceeds going to Chef.

I am rededicating the the Tie-Dye MBF series to the Benifit for Chef MFF (Money For Friends) series.

I will be announcing the next tourney soon.  All proceeds from the new MFF series will go to the fund for Chef through NCKA (uh.......I guess I ought to get together with Bill on this first) and we will change from cash prizes to a rotating prize.

I'm thinking a Tie-Dye chef's hat.

Hey folks, this is sure a touching thread.

What do you all think of a benefit / donation style event for kayak fishing and spearfishing combined down in Monterey to benefit the Chef and his momma?

I don't do tournaments but would loveto do one to benefit this cause.

Maybe a sign in of like 20.00 and the prize will be for largest fish and winner gets a trophy? All money to go to Chef and mom.

Location can be otter cove / coral street area. (i know that some of you folks know this area like the back of your hand: O )

Maybe we can get some items together for 2nd and 3rd place as well and get local dive / sporting goods shops to sponsor?

It would be for a really good cause and just remember, it could happen to anyone.

Let me know and I'll see if I can get some things together.

John - good idea - the more we can all get together on this, the better it works out for Chef and his Mom. And if others can't make it, they can always donate anyway. The more tournaments we can organize for the Blackwell family, then more members can get involved as well. Let's make it fun and cheer-up our buddy at the same time  :smt002

just my 2 cents....

Mooch, as always, it makes sense!

I think maybe do a combo benefit kind of thing.

An unofficial organized kayak fishing and spearfishing dayat otter cove / coral street. People can launch anywhere but sign in at Otter Cove at a predetermined time.

Then maybe like 4-5 hours total to fish. In by noon.

Someone can be designated to judge which the largest fish is and they have the final say. Maybe Bill?: O)

It can be a benefit unofficial tournament for a prize which can be a small trophy. No money prizes.

Rules can be:

- total of 5 fish may be taken
- one to be used for final measurement
- no rays, sharks, skates, seals, eels, dolphins, non finfish, starfish, inverts.... ick.
(otter cove is a finfish take only area)
- kayak fishing or spearfishing off kayaks allowed, no motors (to keep it traditional)
- benefit donation 20.00

All money received goes to the families of NCKA who sure can use it.

Sounds like a fun time. maybe some businesses would like to help with sponsoring a few drawing prizes?

We can get a personalized chefs hat here

http://www.e-cookbooks.net/aprons/chefhats.htm

Just a first glance.  Like 13 bucks for the hat, I can get it dyed and it can be a rotating trophy with each winners name inked on it like the stanely cup.

When Chef kicks the cancers hiney, we can present it to him as a trophy.

I just talked to a nice lady that will do the custom dye for us for $7!

Now I just need to get a 100% cotton hat (no prob already found them) and have it shipped to her, then we can get the stitching done by your friend Bill!  Or if you want, you can get the hat stitched and send it to her.  Whatever.

We should be able to get it all done for under 30 bucks for the hat, and it would be a real cool deal I think.

Chef,

We have never met but I have enjoyed your posts and have tried in vain to hookup with you for fishing in the Monterey/Big Sur area.  The comarodary and freindship extended by NCKA makes me feel like we are old friends and I have made a small donation in your support.  I extend you and your mother the best wishes for a speedy recovery and hope that we will have an opportunity to meet and fish together in the future.
