Aloha!  I bet all you guys are wearing long johns, columbia jackets, fur coats, patented Bear Grylls seal suits etc.   :smt044

Well down here in San Diego we are having some awesome weather mid 40s at night and 70 in the afternoon.  Right now all you guys are making fists and yelling at your monitors.  ARRGGGGHHHHH!  Well, I'm always jealous of you guys and your salmon slappin' up in the north, and the basketball mouth lingasaurus'.

Anyways the yellows are having a great time with the little amount of company which is myself and my shiny jigs.  Everyone thinks to themselves that January is the time to let those reels crust up and dry or let the plastic on your kayak hibernate for the winter.  But down here can we really say we have winter?

So for the past month, I've been nearly secluded and freely running all over God's good ocean.  Nice shiny, cold yellows eating metal in January!  It doesn't get any better in January.

Can't wait until summer!  And I know some of you guys can't either especially with some of the photos I saw on this Forum from the Steve Moyer Tournament.  Haha!  Bikini babes anyone?!

All of the pics are fresh!

Just what I want to see! Real fish porn in January!  One of these days I want to spend a month in San Diego.  Which month is best for fishing?  Thanks for the fresh report.

Kevin,
thx for the fish porn!  I see you have added the PA to the fleet, nice!
I'm looking forward to my next trip back there, and the memories of you helping me land my first YT are still fresh in my mind.

Btw, about 2 weeks ago, my family finished the last of the YT that I had in the freezer and they are asking for more YT sashimi...  keep the fish porn coming

Hey Kevin - not to jack your thread but any of the yak guys down south using the Phenix rods for jig tossing? I'm thinking of building a light weight 8' jig stick and the new Abyss rods looked good. Tx Scott

Thanks everyone for your envious replies!   :smt003  Just kidding!  I love the action you guys have up there and I am totally stoked that the variety of species can be attacked by the plastic navy.  Sturgeon is on the death list for me.

I haven't heard anyone using the phenix sticks off the yak yet.  That sounds like a very good idea seeing as a finished product is light as a feather.  The main problem for me personally with using the new line of blanks offered on the market is the actions are way to fast to make the properly executed cast.  Composite rods with to much graphite kills the parabolic bend jig slingers desire.  Now, I have stated many times that surface iron rods are very unique.  Rods that work for one person may or may not be suited to be cast by the person next to them.  So on that note your preference will be different than my own.

I like the idea though especially with a Daiwa Seagate 40 and straight 65 or 80 lb Power Pro Smooth.  OOOHHHHHH YA!  But if I were wrapping the same stick i would try out one of the Hercules blanks by Seeker.  Those things are so light and thin, but the have a very nice action to them from medium to medium heavy.  Check this blank out: Seeker Hercules GTS 80H.

Fire those questions away!  I don't mind at all.  As long as you return the favor when I head up there for those sturgeon.

Oh man I really laughed at this one FF!  Those are some nice fish. Now bring that PA up here cause we are going to carry down to Stump Beach this year during rockfish season. Its only a small 500ft cliff. theres stairs though so it aint so bad.

Hey Kevin,
Bring a newspaper or a book to read when you come up here for the Dino.  The hunt for them is not as exciting as it looks. :smt003
