This question has been asked and never really answered because it's such an individual choice, but on this website you'll find many firsthand opinions you just gotta spend some time reading thru allot of posts especially in the choosing a kayak section.

Do your online research here and on other websites, then go demo paddle or peddle anything that looks promising, then after you buy your first one, (it never fails) you'll soon start looking to get another, so be ready for that.

One thing I tell people that sometimes doesn't get mentioned much is to think about how it will be to handle the kayak alone when it's out of the water, loading, unloading, storing, transporting etc.

Enjoy the search.

It depends on what style fishing you will be doing too.  I like longer boats in the ocean and large lakes, and shorter kayaks in the river and ponds.  I recommend at least a 12-13 ft at a minimum for an all around boat.  I have gone to a 16 ft boat I use in the ocean and local lakes, it takes some effort for loading and unloading but is really great on the water for speed and working against wind and current.  The longer boat is more effort off the water and less effort on the water.  I use my shorter 10 ft kayak in the river and creeks for maneuverability.

A few of the kayaks I have been impressed with are:
Hobie Adventure (my current boat)
Hobie Revo (going to buy one for the wife so I can borrow it  :smt003)
Ocean Kayak Ultra 4.5 (awesome boat), Trident 15 and 13, and Prowler 15 and 13
Wilderness Tarpon 160 and 140

Good luck with your decision!

And after all that I'll say that I have a Trident 13, the 2 biggest reasons are 1. it has a large center hatch for storing rods and spare paddles (and other stuff) inside the hull. 2.  At 13 ft it's very managable off the water.  And then it does paddle well for a 13 footer and at 5'9"/185# it fits me well. It's not rated as one of the best all around boats for nothing.

Seriously though...

The Tridents are sweet...

I have a 15, but would buy a 13 if I was in the market for a new one...the 15 is harder to lift/carry around and the 13 will still give you plenty of room for long fins, speargun, fishing pole, extra paddle, pool noodles, bilge pump, and dry bag with flares/first aid kit/airhorn.

I say call up yakhopper and jump on the T13.

See you on the water!
