My 2011 Adventure doesn't have that cleat. It has a couple of small roller looking cogs that pinch/lock the down line when you pull the cord and then I tuck the extra cord/down handle into the mesh pocket.

I always use the bungee cord on the far back of the boat/rudder itself to REALLY lock down my rudder. Pulling the cord (first paragraph) alone has never really worked for me unless I'm really light on the peddles and there is no wind or junk in the water. Rudder tends to float up at speed...

I do have a new rudder that Hobie sent me for free a few months back. Haven't installed it yet. Completely different design. Looks solid and the "floating rudder" should be a thing of the past.

Thanks for the pic. I thought it was a cam cleat and was wondering if I was missing something from the factory.

The adventure uses a cam cleat similar to this one.

:smt005 :smt005 :smt005 I never knew that either. I've had some a issues of
the rudder coming up slightly but I thought because I didn't pull down hard enough. Thanks for pointing that out Pern. BTW, how do you like your new ride?

Jedmo

The ride is exceptional, this boat is fast, and the hands free thing? well we all know that here.. nothing beats it.  Thanks, kuya.
