revo?? PA??

Okay guys, so I'm soon to join the Hobie fleet... but with sacrifice.  Wife says I could only keep one yak  which means I have to get rid of my other one, my T120  But I do have the green light from her to get one.  At first it was the outback vs. the revo... and a buttload of peole said revo.  THEN today, coming home from work and stopping by the Vallejo Marina I saw someone unloading a Pro Angler... yep you know where this is going  so what do you think guys? I mean I know that the PA is the ultimate grand behemoth in the hobie fleet, including in terms of weight but man, seeing that boat in person was like  so I talked to the guy (who has never heard of NCKA) and asked him a few questions about it and he seemed to only focus on the weight of the boat when it came to loading and unloading.  When I asked him about stability he kept right on going.  I know the revo is the speedster in the fleet.. aww jeez.. some help would be nice.  Thanks in advance, guys and congrats on your new revo again, Chad!!!

Demo, demo, demo!!!!!!!  Try them out for yourself.  What works for one might not work for another.

Secondly, what do you plan on doing with this yak?  Where will you primarily be using it?  If in the ocean, I'd lean towards telling you to get the Revo but I know that I've never been on either.  That said, I do have the Adventure and Outback.

Finally, when you said he focused on the weight, what did he say.  That would be my concern.  How will you be transport it?  Cartop?

I'm no expert on anything, and I've never even been in a mirage drive, (I am thinking outback in my future tho), But what I tell people is that part of any demo they do should be to lift the yak and carry it a bit.

Getting something that's unmanagable out of the water can be a real drawback.

You can't car top the PA.  You need a trailer or already own a pick up truck.
The heavier the boat the more likely you won't use it.  Can you handle the PA by yourself unassisted?

YEP Hobie Rep told me that at last Paddle Fest. Load it at the back of a pick up truck he said.  I personally would not contemplate loading or unloading a PA on my SUV unassisted.  If I screw up it I can smash the boat, my SUV and myself..

Bit of a threadjack here, How many people have lopped off a rearview mirror while doing a solo loading on their SUV 

Actually it wasn't a weight issue, first time loading the first yak, only 9 ft, 38#, I hefted it up onto those nice slick yakima bars and gave it a shove to make room for the next yak, it slid all the way across, off the edge and took the mirror clean off on the way down,

I love my Revo. I can easily car top this yak by myself in the biginning of the day but after a long day of fishing, I can barely put it back on my minivan on my own. That said, think of what it would be if you were fishing alone unless of course you already have a truck for it or a trailer. Good luck Pern.

I was having the same issue loading my Revo at the end of the day but fortunately for me, I always fish with a Loose Screw or two who lend a hand.  I recently installed Thule Hullivators on my Subaru and you wouldn't believe the difference.  I doubt that you could load a Pro Angler with them, but the sure do the trick with the Revo.

I love my Outback. I am new to the Kayak thing but I have been out in it a few times and I love it. Very stable and pretty quick. I fish mostly lakes though. I have a 2005 and I will definately be buying another Outback soon..(with the excuse my old one will be my wifes )....I agree with the guys who said demo them though.

Thanks for the tips guys, "demo, demo, demo" yup very true.  I'll see about getting one for both of these boats.  I have a truck already which is what I use for loading and transporting, no big issue there.  The guy, told me that the PA is just really heavy.  I saw him offload it from his little truck which had a lumber rack on it, and I think that's what made it a plus for him, then he had a dolley for it.  Back to the drawing boards, and yes.. "DEMO!!!" thanks again, fellas.

Hey Pern, the ? I would ask " is this considered a yak or a boat?" would suck if you couldn't fish it at gs6 or Albion. I have never test drove the PA but my 11 revolution is sick!!!

Why would it be considered a boat any more than your Revo?  It's not motoroized, unless one decides to make it, it has pedals, like a Revo, and has a paddle?

I don't think it being considered a boat is a problem unless certain modifications are made.
