I always thought it was interesting that Hobie called it a boat. I think that, generally, for our purposes it passes as a kayak -- right?

If you are more of a purist in defining "kayak" the counter would be, I think, the mirage drive as much as it's heft. That opens up a whole other can of worms. Of course we could get into the issues of being made from plastic, sitting on top, etc <g>

Get the PA!!! That thing is a beast...you can do it all on it.  The one thing I like most is the seat design.  I've heard so many good things about it.  I own a '10 Outback with the turbo fins.  If I had to do it again, I'd keep my T-13 for rivers and get a PA for everything else. The Outback is great, it has all the speed and stability I could ask for.  I've been out with guys in Revo's and even met up with a guy who has an Adventure and had no problem keeping up (or even passing them) for that matter.  The only thing I hate about the Hobie's (except the PA) is the seat/seating position.  I hate sitting in that position for hours.  It sucks. The way I see it, who cares how fast/stable you are unless your ass is happy.

+1 for the PA!

Opie cartops.

Hobie has their own reasons for marketing it as a boat, but most would say it's a yak once they see it otw.

How are you going to use it? That might factor into the decision (I wouldn't want to surf launch the PA too often for instance).

thanks for the great replies and opinions guys.  I have heard folks call it a "boat" I guess because of the size of this thing.  But for those in here that own a PA, since it looks like you're sitting pretty high on the water... how's it like paddling it? I plan to use it everywhere and anywhere there's water with fish in it  :smt003.. but the surf launch thing, I agree.  I like to fish for RF alot out of Fort Ross soooo yeah.  Man, I need to actually get on one of these for a terst drive.  Thanks again, fellas.

If memory serves correct, it doesn't come with a paddle but rather a single oar.  That may be all you need to know. :smt003

Yeah, you need to test drive for sure.

It looks like you're really into the PA. Anyway you could convince the wife to keep the T120?  You'd have the best of both worlds and can take the T120 when the surf's up. I had was in a similar situation and the boss eventually relented.

Also, I've seen the PA surf launched before. It might take some time to get use to, but it also could be easier once you get use to it.

Bit of a threadjack here, How many people have lopped off a rearview mirror while doing a solo loading on their SUV  :smt006

Actually it wasn't a weight issue, first time loading the first yak, only 9 ft, 38#, I hefted it up onto those nice slick yakima bars and gave it a shove to make room for the next yak, it slid all the way across, off the edge and took the mirror clean off on the way down,  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

:smt005 just just got me laughing Dale I could see it so clearly...........  :smt005 not funny but.... :smt044

The PA looks so sweet doing back flips and all off it...it's the weight thing for me...couldn't drag it up on my camper with as easy as a revo..........well haven't tried it yet but will play into buying it....

wasn't that u out with Reelknots sunday @ Ft Ross???

Yep sure was sledge, I'm trying to convert all my gopro vids from that day, but I'm running into trouble.  You're getting a hobie too? man, the dark side sure is strong  :smt003.  Anyhoots, I saw the same guy on the way home from work today again doing the same number unloading his boat, BUT this time he was kind enough to let me ride in it, just for a short spin around the boat docks at the Vallejo Marina.... AWESOME!!! I absolutely love everything and I was amazed at how a huge boat/yak can really haul ass.  Plenty of room for anything, and everything.  Okay so now I have to decide between the two.

Wondering if we might have met at doran before during the winter?  Do you transport your yak in the back of a pickup?  I had the yellow hobie with the small outriggers.

Hmmmm.. as a matter of fact I do.  Wow, I have been crabbing/ fishing there many times mostly with either reelknots or hightide, and others as well.  Las time I was there though, I was talking to someone there (and I can't remember his name) about how the day sucked for me.. or us anyway, and we were discussing how maybe moonphase was a factor? lol  :smt005 all the while, chadrock and reelknots are coming back with crates of dungies  :smt044.. perhaps we have crossed paths.

Not a problem sledge, maybe next time I hit the fort you can take her for a ride  :smt001.  Speaking of which I did make a decision on which of the two.. the Revo.  While weight or loading and unloading is not much an issue for me with the PA it's more or less paddling a barge, with the Revo however I can paddle just as easy.  So goes to say that I can switch from either sides of the force in an instant, what madness!!
