She's shooting a Ruger Mark II .22 pistol.

Tote - with all due respect, that's just hoplophobic horsecrap. Crime rates always, repeat ALWAYS go down when a state makes it easier for regular citizens to carry concealed. Were your hypothesis true, wouldn't the opposite occur? To paraphrase the cliche "Blaming guns for making people do stupid things, is like blaming forks for making Rosie O'Donnell fat".

That said, I think that direct confrontation in this instance is unwise, best to do it through channels - police, mayor etc...  If you feel like they're getting squirrely, and are about to cut the thing  in pieces to dispose of it, perhaps a friendly conversation might be worthwhile. Something along the lines of "There are some witnesses, police are getting close, but if the boat showed up on my truck in the morning, no more questions would be asked. Have a nice day" and leave.

Scott

From my perspective, owning firearms makes me more respsonsible.  If I commit a felony I lose the right to own them.  That'd really suck.

Wouldn't any of you guys walk the straight and narrow if you stood to permanently lose your fishing privledges for commiting a crime?
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

James, continue to be cool.

Even if the neighbors did steal your yak, its not worth getting killed or killing anyone for a kayak.
I know folks are saying some funny stuff, but the canister down the chimney could do serious damage to someone not responsible for the crime and just at the wrong place at the wrong time. :smt002

Bullet shots also are very easy for the police to track down the shooter so the gun is out. :smt003 :smt007

Now a carefully placed sharpened screwdrive(phillips to a point) to the small of the victims back will definately do  the job.
The only problem here is the noise escaping the victim, you must cover their mouth. And when covering the mouth you should pull away and up from the entry point. Seals off the amount of resistence.
See even a fisherman like me has some good mafia hit advice...... :smt012

All of this was a joke.....Please dont think I am capable of any of this anyone... :smt007

James, I have an extra yak, its smaller than yours but would lend it to you anytime bro...Its an Ocean Kayak Caper.

Good luck..

James, Sorry to hear about your yak, but I have had a similar experience myself.
A couple of ideas:

1) Without going into detail, you need a friendly disturbance outside his house, enough that that police will be called. Once at the site and you explain yourself they will probably go in to check. Being loud without being voilent is the way to go, just get one of the other neighbors to call the police as soon as you start yhour disurbance.

2) If you have contacted the landlord, he has the right to go in the house to check for whatever reason he wants to with a 24hr. notice. I would imagine if it is in their that 24 hrs. would be the time to watch the house closely, if they move it, or at least the landlord can vouch if it is there.

Good luck, If that doesn't work, contact your local hells angels, they are always looking for ways to initiate new members.

ScottThornley~

I hope you aren't saying that all these gang bangers out there that weigh in around 98 pounds who will jump in the face of anyone who looks at them no matter how big that person might be do so because they are they are well versed diplomats in the art of verbal confrontation. I will bet you any amount of money they do so because they are packin'.
With all due respect, there is no need to jump on the NRA bandwagon. I own a shotgun. I just choose not to own a handgun.
There are many cases where not owning one would have had a better outcome than owning one. Look at the woman who blew another woman away because the two of them got mad at each other while driving. Instead of just driving off and being pissed, she took out her gun and killed the other woman. I know, SHE killed the other woman, not the gun. I hear ya.
My point is that by having it she obviously acted differently than if she didn't have it. It gave her a false sense of power that she could impose on anyone, which she did. Without the gun she would have handled the situation differently.
Now before I get a bunch of flack; if you want to have a gun, by all means I don't want to stand in your way. I have no problem with that at all. It is my opinion and personal experience that people act differently when carrying one and a confrontational situation arises.

Tote,

You are correct. People act very different when packing versus unarmed. But in a manner opposite what you and the Mainstream Media would have us believe. The vast majority of CCW holders say they become much more circumspect in their behavior because they carrying. They tend to avoid confrontation, rather than embrace it. Note that I make a big distinction between legal and illegal carrying. You see, if a person is carrying illegally, they aren't very bright, or they just don't care about the consequences of commiting a weapons related felony. Thus the gun isn't making them stupid or reckless, 'cause they're already there.

Now consider just how brash would the 98 pound gang banger be, if in the back of his mind, he knew that there was a good chance that the "sheep" he was confronting, was actually a wolf? There has to be something like this happening, because FBI stats show that once states move to "shall issue CCW permits", crime rates drop. Sure, there are the occasional ocurrances of idiocy/rage that get lots of press, but what doesn't get any press are the large numbers of times a citizen brandishes during a mugging attempt, and the bad guys walk away, looking for  an easier target.

As for your woman, I'd be willing to bet that if she didn't pull out the gun, she'd have gotten into a fistfight, or used her car as a weapon. Certainly less lethal, but an equal amount of loss of self control.

At any rate, this is hijacking the thread, so I'll not post any more about carry/non-carry. Maybe a discussion over a beer sometime?

Regards,
Scott

I dont want to stir things up again but I have a little update.

I got a call from an offficer "M" yesterday and he wanted to give me an update, Turns out after my bugging the police department for several weeks after it was stolen the department decided to take the case away from officer "U" and give it to officer"M" for some unknown reason. The day officer "M" got the report on his desk (4weeks) after the theft he took mug shots of the suspects and went to the kayak store they tried to sell it at and got a positive ID on the gentlemen who tried to sell it. At this point he felt he had probable cause and went to the suspects house's 2 suspect 2 houses. The kayak or any of the gear was not in either apartment and officer"M" surched dilegently both domiciles. After the search he questioned both suspects individually and got 2 very different stories reguarding it. I told no one around the area my stuff was stolen but somehow one of the suspects knew it was stolen off a brown s10 pick up.

Officer "M" apoogized for not getting it back and stated if he would have gotten the report sooner we could have had a different outcome. he told me the body language and the stories the suspects told him made him sure they stole it but it would not hold up in court without hard evidence, Officer "M" said in his opinion they dumped it afraid they would get caught.

After the report officer"M" said he was into kayaking and at that point I realized The law dosent matter just what an individual police officer wants to do to earn his paycheck. makes sence right

Sorry to hear they got away with it. Maybe your kayak will show up when you least expect it, seems like it would be kinda hard to just dump a kayak...
