I know I'm asking a lot but anybody know of a nice close to the ocean place to camp in the Monterey area?

Yeah, Veterans Park is the only real campground near Monterey. Other nearby trailer-camping options include the Monterey Fairgrounds, and Laguna Seca Raceway. Then heading north towards Santa Cruz, we've got Moss Landing KOA, Watsonville La Selva Beach KOA, Sunset State beach, Manresa State Beach, New Brighton beach, and Seacliff beach. Then there's Pfieffer Big Sur state park if you want to camp somewhere scenic & peaceful.
