IMHO, with or without a policy, common sense should dictate the appropriate behavior.  I think the word "private" makes it very clear that these posts are only for the members of our community.  Creating additional policies can be a slippery slope and create an unfriendly environment.  I don't think a new policy is necessary but I do think this was a clear violation of the privacy that is clearly stated and should be understood by all.  If this person isn't banned, they should certainly get a stiff warning and banned if they continue to violate the intended privacy of the reports.

My personal opinion is that Members-Only reports are like copyrighted reports for this board and therefore for it's member's eyes only. We all know why we have members-only reports so I don't need to re-hash the reason. Reproducing them at another site violates the trust of the poster who assumed, given the policy, that distribution will be limited to bona fide NCKA members most of whom have a fishing ethic with which we are comfortable. I realize this appears to be painting non-members with a broad black brush but I don't mean it that way. There are ethical non-members—in fact undoubtedly most probably are—but they are welcome to join this group as a member to view the reports as long as they stay in good standing.

If you don't buy that argument consider this: every page view here earns a bit of money to help run this site. Every time content is "taken" from this site and posted elsewhere, that funding is diminished making it more likely we'll have to consider membership fees to support the site. Sure a little bit here and there won't have much impact, but it's better to have a clear policy before it becomes a problem—because as the internet grows and it is, the problem can become significant.

Let's keep members-only reports in the family—we have a big tent and table so it's not like we are denying a lot of people access if they take the trouble to earn it a bit.

In light of the above, I don't see the restriction on members-only reports as draconian at all and I don't think a policy prohibiting cross posting as bad either. I hope what I have argued makes sense to most of you and we'll all consider the impacts of offsite cross posting.

I'm pretty new to the forum and I've only made one post to the members report section, but this type of thing is enough to prevent me from making posts in the future. I'm generally pretty tight lipped with my info, but this group is so welcoming and generous with info that I feel obliged to share because I benefit from what others have shared. Because of the nature of the group on here this is the only place online I would CONSIDER posting detailed information. I think there should be some policy in place to preserve the integrity of the members report section, otherwise, for me, it's not worth the risk of seeing my post become public information. just my $.02
I agree. This is the only forum I post on because I feel it stays within our "circle" but lately I've also notice our posts being referred to(cut&pasted)on other fishing forums. The IVR report has already been posted (in there own words at least) on imhooked.com (kokonee board). News travels fast around the web.

Please refrain from any personal attacks in this thread. There is no official policy and we aren't going to ban anyone prior to an 'official policy'.  I will post a sticky in the MO forums once the mods talk about this and set the rules. Please continue posting opinions in this thread so the mods can take your opinion in to consideration.

I agree with what Brian G is saying here. I think the person should be talked to and advised of the wrong doing. They may not have realized they were doing anything wrong! Then again, we shouldn't have to have a policy when common sense should speak for itself. However, with the policy, should the behavior continue after the warning the member could be banned for good reason. Being a part of the NCKA family to me is a privilege. I would hope that if I made a mistake it would be brought to my attention to prevent future occurrences rather than be thrown to the curb.

I say post-up his name
  Please do.

The info shared here is sacred.

Preach the gospel of NCKA, invite others to participate, but IMO posting a link to privately shared info, that was shared in confidence, among friends... is an inexcusable breach of etiquette, at the very minimum.

I hope somebody at least called him out on the other board.

I say if somebody re-posts a member's only report without permission they should at least be banned from the member's only section. If I posted a hot bite somewhere and specifically mentioned it was for NCKA members only, then saw that info posted somewhere else I would have a personal problem with whoever re-posted the info.

"Oh, there wasn't anything in the guidelines stating that was wrong" doesn't cut it.

reminds me of something I heard in a movie:

"we had a friend...well, he'd gotten a book from Denys and never returned it. Denys was furious.
I said to him 'you wouldn't lose a friend because of a silly book would you?'
And Denys said 'No, but he has, hasn't he?'"

to me,  if something is posted in "members-only" that it means "no sharing".

PM has been sent to Art with the info for further investigation by Art.

This guy is obviously not a kayakfisher and he even bragged that he knew what he was doing was wrong.  :smt013

And no this has nothing to do with NCUH. This is a powerboater deliberately stealing intel from us kayakfishers and deseminating it to his fellow powerboaters so they can gain from it.

I got a tree.....someone get me a rope!

I'm a newby here and even I think that what was done was uncool.

I might not agree with a ban, but it should be written into the posting policy that re-posting private info is forbidden.

Then ban them for breaking the rule, as of now there is no rule broken, just bad etiquette.
