Stupid law! I hope the Mav locals ignore it completely. Oh and btw rdwdfx, dont matter how many spliffs you smoke on the beach, the adrenalin will have you straight as a ruler by the time you make to the lineup.

Actually, think how some valley-types guys ride those things in the sanctuary you'll know inside that the law is a decent one.

That said, Mavs kinda necessitates a waveruuner or PWC for instances just like this. Which is why they get permits for the Mtns contest. I guess the best compromise would be to have an inpection of the PWC before issuing a permit for the day. Maybe that would appease the preservationists and the surfers who are looking for a little safety backup. I'll be the first to agree that if not for the guy on the PWC, there would have been one and possibly two fatalites out there that day.

Northern SC coast or Monterey? No way is a PWC necessary. If not for the law it would look like lake San Antonio out there.

I'm somewhere in between the comments on the article. The PWC's at Mavs save lives, but that doesn't mean we should allow PWC's full access to all of the MBMS waters.

That ban is ridiculous and it impacts a huge area. Why is NOAA calling the shots in state waters? Doesn't CA have jurisdiction over their own coastline or is that the problem. The californians making the rules think that humans have no right to coastal access if there are marine mammals or birds around? It doesn't seem to matter that so much of the coast has limited access to begin with.

Does anyone  know the kayaker who assisted in the rescue?

Hardcore for sure. Glad nobody died.

Here's some video I shot yesterday @ Marina beach while surfperchin! Try to spot the surfer. Dude was truly hardcore. Those are like 15ft faces on the outside!

Awesome ocean power!  I think I saw the surfer at the last 3 seconds of the end.  Thanks for the video Sin Coast.

Thanks for that link Sharky-it doesn't look to me like any law was broken.

Seems like there is already a provision for safety PWC's at Mavs, which makes total sense.

Now I'm thinking that the article's author is not such a good person...instead they're just fanning the flames of an ancient argument that has already been addressed.

It just seems like "platfomism" to me. If a guy on a skiff can go places, why cant a PWC? What if i owned a PWC and wanted to troll for salmon at deep reef. Not allowed, but a guy in a Whaler and a smokey loud over sized 2 stroke is cool? What if I know of a secret underwater point down towards Anuo that i wanted to access to surf with a rescue buddy on the PWC?

Yeah, I totally hear your argument. As with most things like this, it seems to be a case of too many bad apples spoil it for everyone.
After the "whale hassler" dude in the SC harbor, and the jet ski guy running down otters off Blacks a few years back I can see where the ban came from, but it also takes away just a little more freedom from the rest of us that would never do such things.
And the guys who would ride like idiots? They just go out anyway & get no news articles. Instead its the one guy who saves a life that generates controversy.
