My new Ultra
« on: January 09, 2011, 11:19:56 pm »
So, I got to pick this guy up today from MBK.  I'll post again with a review once I get to paddle it.

I can tell you it's heavy.  Great deck layout, love the flip rod pod lid.  New rudder design looks good too.

The hull looks like a p15 in the bow, the T15 along the sides (except there's a double chine) and like the scupper pro along the rounded keel.

It will be interesting to see how all that translates OTW.

Light was great for showing subtleties  and flow of the hull.

The hull shape on that yak is sooo nice. Love that rod pod lid too. What did you think about the weight? It says on the site it's 77 pounds but it seems the weight ratings on the sites and real life are always different.  Actually, since that sucker is all the way up on the VDub manvan I'm sure it was easy enough.

Now to get some fish blood on that sucker! :headbang:

Yeah, handling and loading  is not very different than my Trident 15, really.  I angle the bow onto the back of the van, then lever it up till I catch the rollers and viola.  Getting from here to there is always the wheeleze cart, and the added weight is not noticible there at all.  Once it's in the water the extra few pounds are not going to make a difference, I'm sure.  One trick item is the new, replacable "skid plate" they install on the end of the keel.  No more gooping that point anymore!!

I have to figure out how/when I can steal a couple hours over the next two days to get it into the salt and see how it performs, before I hit the ISE show on Friday.  I have a new Humminbird FF/GPS unit meeting me in Sacramento, and will probably do that install publicly, like a workshop if anyone is interested.

I will be bouncing between Adventure Sports, Windtoys, Fisherman's Wharehouse, and I think  one other OK retailer while at the show, and hope to schedule some seminar/talks at each of the locations.

Can't wait to get this boat fully rigged, still undetermined on how/where to install some vertical rodholders in the back.  Suggestions welcome.

Oh yea, that is one sexy yak! If it was a woman it'd be Jessica Alba, with a little Megan Fox mixed in...  :smt007  Looking forward to hearing your review, Allen!

Cool to hear the weight's not a big deal. I kinda figured. Man, looking at the pica again, that's gotta be one of the best, if not the best, looking hulls in the SOT biz. Looks like it's hauling ass on top of the manvan. :)

I've been looking at the deck layout and I'm getting more and more excitited.  So many well thought-out nuances that will make life easier on the water!  If I have time tonight I'll get some pix and point out what I've noticed so far.
